Despite it all, the Org is way better than Facebook

I saw a report on "60 Minutes" about how apps are designed to manipulate your brain and get you addicted to them. Of course Facebook was Prime Suspect Number One. It's designed to make you keep scrolling, and it's also designed to make you always want to check it to see how many Likes you have.

Instagram is the same. Pretty much all of social media is basically the tobacco of the internet. They are designed first and foremost to hook you. That's why Instagram has Streaks.

Think about using Facebook. Don't you just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling? Of course you do! I know I do. We're always scrolling, looking for the next item of interest. Did you ever notice that your Facebook posts aren't in time and date order? Nope! Facebook figures out what you like, and then makes sure those threads are separated by as many ads as they think they can get away with. All to keep you scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.

I get it - they want you to use their product as much as possible. So they use every trick in the book. Which brings me to the Org.

No tricks here! Everything is laid out in time/date order. You don't have to scroll except to read new posts on only the threads you choose. Users can get the information or entertainment they want far faster from the good old Org than they can from Facebook or other social media.

I know the Org is old. I know the Org is outdated. I know the Org is simple.

And I hope that never changes!

My facebook feed is in order because I'm a rebel and screw facebook!

I have a board I'm a member of where I feel the same way, though. The format is similar to here. I would choose it over facebook a thousand times.

I'm not on Facebook but I am on Twitter and the Org is better than Twitter...Twitter is good for Porn-vids and getting breaking News in Real-Time...

And on top of that, Ben is not making millions upons millions of dollars on us like Mark Zuckerburg is. That's the main reason I don't like facebook: it's not for the users. They're just there to make this Zuckerburg guy rich.

It's appalling that Sixty Minutes had to explain to people why they should care about this. disbelief

I agree. Facebook has too many issues(privacy, intrusive, fake news, drama, etc) for me. Even though i do have a Facebook page, i never quite understood all the hoopla about it(FB). One good thing i will say about Facebook though, is it gave me the opportunity to reconnect with Family and Friends that i hadn't seen in years. And I'm grateful for that.

As far as the org? IMO, Its not what it used to be, but i still enjoy coming here. I'm not really feeling the drama that sometimes goes on in Prince:M&M, and AA&P, but i get why its happening. I assume Prince(the man and his music)was the reason why we all first came here. So him dying, and all the unanswered questions surrounding his death, was bound to cause some friction, disagreements, etc, between his fans... IDK, though. Some of the drama just seems so pointless, immature, trollish, and crazy.

Anyway, it would be cool to have more of the people who used to post here, back.

So, in closing. Even though i haven't been posting much lately, and historically, never really reached out to a lot of people on here, I've always enjoyed this place. And most of the people who through the years, have posted on here. Even when i lurked(for around 10 years thumbs up! ). When i lurked, I used to somewhat trip out on the posters here. The whole online communication thing. People saying all kinds of confrontational(in my mind) stuff. I wasn't used to all that. I used to think to myself, " I'd slap the taste outta your mouth, if you said what you said to that person, to me"(if we were to meet in person). I was pretty crazy back then.

Anyway, much props to Ben.

And to everybody else. God bless, and carry on. wink peace

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I fully second everything Rodeo said - except the "hope that never changes" part: the alternative to the Org isn't FBook *alone* - right now, the net allows us to SEE and HEAR each other!! For probably the FOURTH, and hopefully final, time - appear.in , people, appear.in !!!

(Been away from here for couple of days - finished my data pack before time! smile )

I hate the layout of Facebook, and I hate all the ads and that its too congested with goofy stuff ("Betty just liked a picture", "Joan just checked in at Wawa",etc.)

Thus, I barely use my account. Instagram is my drug of choice though, but in the glory days of the org being busy all day, it was funner than both

If you will, so will I

Apparently no one cares enough to discuss the sixty minutes report so I guess the reason why FB is no good doesn't matter to anybody? lol

No, I haven't seen that Sixty Minutes report, but I've read some newspaper articles that said the same thing. And seeing people around you obsessed with their smartphone tells you enough... Sometimes when I walk down the street and I see somebody walking towards me who is looking at the screen of his/her phone, I'm thinking: I have to look for two; I don't only have to watch where I'm going, I have to watch where that other person is going as well. For the record: I have a smartphone myself and I'm very happy with it, in fact I'm using it to type this right now, but I don't use it when I'm walking or cycling.

I read the Cooper's articles, there isn't there anything we already didn't know. It would get worse in years to come, if i were President in Mexico i had already taken some actions about it.

Ben rarely gets mentioned, except in the Prince.org Site Discussion forum. He is THE MAN there.
