The Next 'Game of Thrones' Could Be Set In Post-Apocalyptic Africa

On Monday, Nigerian-American author Nnedi Okorafor posted an announcement on her Facebook page:

"I'm finally free to announce this: My World Fantasy Award winning novel WHO FEARS DEATH has been optioned by HBO and is now in early development as a TV series with George R. R. Martin as executive producer. Note: This did not happen overnight. It's been nearly 4 years coming."

Martin is, of course, the author of the novels that became the HBO smash hit Game of Thrones and also serves as a co-executive producer of the series.

I just wish Martin would finish his final book for Game of Thrones.

D.B. Weiss said in an article that he's not gonna be involved in any of the GOT prequels...Weiss is focusing on a diverse HBO Drama called Confederate (Modern Day Slavery in The South 2.0)...

Weiss is Gambling on a risky series and I like that....Go Big, or stay Home....We need ORIGINAL shows that forces us to talk about Life and especially Race...

Backlash on a bizarre concept, "What if the South had won, and seceded and kept their slaves?", this Weiss guy seems to be apologizing, not sure if the plug was pulled on this one though. Personally, how would a society be able to progress spending so much energy suppress another's group natural urge to have a part in that society?

Personally, I like seeing various concepts outside of westernized eyes, that's what I find interesting. I do find it a bit difficult getting into some of the African sci-fi sometimes because I'm approaching it with a different ideaology, but it does give a whole other prespective.

You're probably already aware that Social Media campaigned against the production of Confederate during the airing of Game of Thrones 3rd episode....It was mainly Black Women, but Men joined them in the protest...

This is how I see it...The Majority of Black Women have no problem with White Men worshiping at the feet of Olivia Pope EVERY thursday night, but they are showing their GUMS when it comes to HBO's Drama Confederate, a drama that does not even have a completed script, no cast and is set to start production in 2018...I'm Pro-Confederate because HBO has proven that they only pick projects/creators/producers/writers that get it right...HBO ain't no joke and they're telling everyone to hold their judgement until they see the Drama...They deserve that much...

Now...Morningsong...You seem to be on the fence...Are you gonna wait and see how the Drama unfolds or do you give it a thumbs-down because the Drama is gonna show modern-day Slavery?

Not on the fence, I just don't see how this could be a series set in modern times without being over the top violent which is going to really stir the pot in an already tense reality. You mean Black Men are overjoyed to see the kind a violence that would be necessary to openly suppress a whole group of people in today's time?

I thought WGN's Underground was gonna be a HOT MESS but it's brilliant...D.B. Weiss is an amazing storyteller, I'm not gonna sell his writing Team short until they give us some episodes...

As well written as Underground is it has been cancelled I think American slavery has run it's course for the moment. A book would take more thought and research. That's what makes GoT so good the elements of history and culture backing it.

I don't even know if I can blame that on auto-correct.

And the cycle continues...

Amazon Is Developing Black America, a Series That’s Basically the Anti-Confederate

HBO’s Confederate is taking another blow in the publicity department. Just weeks after the network endured intense social-media backlash against its upcoming alt-history series, which will imagine an America in which slavery is still legal, Amazon has revealed the plot of a new alt-history series that’s essentially the opposite of HBO’s hotly contested show.

On Tuesday, Amazon revealed its new series Black America, created by blockbuster producer Will Packer and Boondocks TV show creator Aaron McGruder. The show imagines what would have happened if Southern states had seceded from the union—and newly freed slaves were given the territories of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as reparations, per Deadline. Here’s how the rest of the plot goes:

“The sovereign nation they formed, New Colonia, has had a tumultuous and sometimes violent relationship with its looming “Big Neighbor,” both ally and foe, the United States. The past 150 years have been witness to military incursions, assassinations, regime change, coups, etc. Today, after two decades of peace with the U.S. and unprecedented growth, an ascendant New Colonia joins the ranks of major industrialized nations on the world stage as America slides into rapid decline. Inexorably tied together, the fate of two nations, indivisible, hangs in the balance.”

Black America has been in the works for well over a year—but HBO’s announcement about Confederate, coupled with the immediate public backlash, urged its creators to accelerate its announcement.
