The companies themselves are a paid service, each have their own rules and stipulations. I'd research and look at reviews before I'd contact anyone.

Even so apps are expensive to make and it really depends what type of app you want to create. Ball park estimates: Simple reference app ~ $5,500 / 8,000, complex app $25,000 / 80,000 and up, very complex app 6 figures and up.

Protecting your idea...

1. Get your lawyer to draft a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Exchange a signed NDA with every party whom you decide to reveal your idea to.

2. You may want to talk with a attorney or patent agent about setting up provisional patent application. I really not in the mood to type forever. Basically a provisional patent application (protect your idea for a limited time) allows you time to get the kinks out of your prototype. At some point (12 months) you'll have to present your idea in its final glory. In this case you can get a patent agent to file your idea"... cost isn't that much $65 to hundred bucks maybe?

example: Every year you hear Apple has filed a patent to do this are that: The press reveals a basic design or function but still they can't say for sure how the idea... the software or device will be used. In most instances Apple has filed for a provisional patent application... giving themselves a limted time to workout the kinks but also be the 1st with an idea.

Let me say this....

If you checked out the links at the sites that help you create apps, they aren't cheap either. The bottom line you'll have to have some existence knowledge if you use those application above or if you decided to learn code. There's no quick anything... if you starting from zero, you are going to have to put in the time on how to develop an app backwards and forward. The more you know the better you'll be at creating an application. That's why I posted the link above and below.. to give you an idea what it would take to create an app minus the knowledge of coding.Take it one step at a time.

Great advice. I created an app and I/We kept making changes along the way which kept adding to our costs. As stated elsewhere there is probably an app out there doing what you want.....How do you monetise the app as there are constant running costs for apple/android software updates/bug fixes/server costs/upgrading functionality.

Main thing is to ensure that you agree all costs up front and that you really specify all processes so there can be no disagreements between you and any potential developer you choose.

I am based in Ireland and we used a company based in India and found the time difference/language (even though they spoke almost perfect English) in communication hard at times.

If your app is not that complicated then it probably shouldn't be too worrying as our app was very complicated. If you agree an hourly fee then ensure that they show the work per hour as the costs can rack up pretty fast.

It was our first app so we made lots of mistakes/changes on our end that ended up costing us in the long run.

Nope not an app developer, retired lawyer. I helped a DJ friend way-back-in-the-day to develop an app so fans could keep up to date on his engagements and latest releases. Now folks use Instagram & Twitter.

It is very similar to Flok....It had a few more features and had them before other apps developed them. We were in talks with one of the major mobile carriers in Europe and they loved it and did testing and we modified to suit integration into their system but the UK division purchased an app similar to our and told them drop us.....That is where we lost a lot of money. Flok is a loyalty and rewards app that has about 80,000 store locations across the US on it.

I have an Engineering background but I'm not a software guy.

We just came up with the idea/functionality and paid developers to code it for us
