I agree.the org is so much better.i deleted my Facebook account a week ago and I feel a lot better about myself already.facebook is so addictive and takes up so much of your time that you could be doing something more fun or valuable with .I hate to say it but I know quite a few that are on Facebook NON STOP everyday.

FB is good for keeping in touch with family. That's the only reason why I got on it in the first place.

That's good and all but you could just call them or text them to stay in touch

Facebook, like twitter and tumblr, is for bottom feeders. I occasionally post on all 3 tho - probably out of spite.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

I prefer special interest forums like this one over fb any time. The fact that everyone is anonymous on forums makes discussions more honest - sometimes more agressive as well, but I can live with that and usually mods are going out of their way to make sure that it doesn't get too low. I use whatsapp to stay in touch with friends and family, but haven't logged into fb in more than a year.

I think it is good in the respect that you can see 'day to day' stuff, that doesn't come from phone calls. The phone calls is a more intimate aspect of the connection.

.

Like people post photos of things they do are doing, found(old photos) etc and you get to 'see' them in photos. FB should never replace phone calls though.

.

But as far as texting goes, it could be the same as FB IM or 'chatting' in the moment on FB on a particular post/picture. Life updates.

.

I use it to stay in touch with Family & Friends for this purpose.

I agree. Hard to have meaningful conversations on FB. Posts tend to get lost in the shuffle.

I liked this place immensely when I joined in 2008, 2009. Then I got a feeling that if you disagreed with certain people, all their tribe would be right on top of you. Almost never did two members of the same tribe take opposing positions. Many threads went on for over 15 pages and were hysterical to read in GD.

Now Facebook, well I got to go beyond Prince fans but it hasn't led into any real friendships. People I know post endless pics of their children. I almost feel obliged to "like" them. I don't dislike your kid but no one in the world wants to look at hundred of pictures of the same kid that they are not related to. Sorry. Unless your cat or dog is seriously funny the same goes for them.

Apparently no one cares enough to discuss the sixty minutes report so I guess the reason why FB is no good doesn't matter to anybody? lol

No, I haven't seen that Sixty Minutes report, but I've read some newspaper articles that said the same thing. And seeing people around you obsessed with their smartphone tells you enough... Sometimes when I walk down the street and I see somebody walking towards me who is looking at the screen of his/her phone, I'm thinking: I have to look for two; I don't only have to watch where I'm going, I have to watch where that other person is going as well. For the record: I have a smartphone myself and I'm very happy with it, in fact I'm using it to type this right now, but I don't use it when I'm walking or cycling.

I don't have a smartphone on purpose. It can be a hastle sometimes, but for the most part it's better. No, constent looking at a screen.

And for the record I don't like things on Facebook if I don't want to. I may like them, but I may not press the like option.

This is true

If it was 5 people talking, but once too many join a conversation it is too difficult to follow.

Tell me about it! I finally got a page for business purposes and had to choose the unfollow but stay friends option many times. I wish people would stop plastering their kids all over social media.

These poor babies have no say in the matter and their parents are often stupid enough to disclose the name of whatever school, club or little league they belong to. It annoys the hell out of me because there are so many sickos out there.

I get that they are all about their family and their kids. At the same time I am not their kids friend. It is like they don't have a life outside of their role as parent. As much as I envy their tme with their family I wonder how these people will take it when their kids begin to pull away. Once the child is no longer a minor I guess it will be time to get a dog.

I never thought of it before but you are right. They do say where the children are or will be.

The org has always been adult. They even chased away members under 18. People talked all kinds of dirty stuff back in the day and whole threads were dedicated to anal sex, lol. It was hilarious and on a topic of that nature people managed to stay on topic and never derail a thread. People from all over the world contributed!
