You know its possible to do both, right?

I've got a friend in the armed forces overseas. FB is quite important to him for staying in touch with loved ones when he's doing a stint. Next time I see him I'll make sure to tell him to 'get a life' ...

Ugh, I hate that. I never post pictures of food. I've only posted one picture of a drink, and that's because it was a margarita in which the alcohol is delivered in test tubes, which is very cool.

Yeah, I don't post my personal information either, have a few friends that do and I have no judgement. My page is mainly for music and random stuff. Came in contact with a few orgers there and I love what they post too, as I leanred alot from their taste in music.

I STILL don't get what the damn thing IS, or WHY everyone's so infatuated with it. Maybe some of you "Yes, I'm on it"-ers can explain it to me??

I'm on Facebook but I don't use it and I ignore all friend requests. I was just curious to see what it was so I set up an account on it. I never had any intention of using it but after I set up the account, I couldn't think of any use for it anyway. It seems kind of pointless.

Well said

Yes, very well said indeed.

But so does iMessage and FaceTime and Skype. I guess I'm not understanding. I get not relating to facebook (or anything else). I don't get twitter, snappy chat, games, and a lot of other popular social media. My only point is that facebook and real life human interactions aren't mutually exclusive. I guess I'm not understanding the confusion because my experience is that facebook is an addition to my real life, not a substitute for it.

Facebook brings out the worst in the self-centered, it really does. It's a way for them to broadcast everything they do, everywhere they go, everyone they're with, everything they eat, every mood they're in, every picture and video they like, etc. It's one of the major reasons why I don't use it. Like one big competition to prove to everyone that THEIR life is more fulfilling and interesting than everyone else's. mad

I didn't for many, many years, because Facebook is the devil. As a "social networking" tool I still think it is literally Satan incarnate. If you break it down with any kind of logic it is wholly and completely unnecessary. Everything it does could be done other ways before it was created, now they can be done multiple other ways. Zuckerberg's biggest triumph, in my opinion, is tricking so many hundreds of millions of people into believe Facebook is something that improves their loves, so they simply MUST HAVE IT!

A couple years ago somebody messaged me on SLSK and asked me to join a particular Facebook music group. I created an account that has nothing to do with my real name or my real life and joined that group. Through that group I joined another group. I like both of those groups. I don't follow anyone and I don't have any followers. I also play Mahjong.

Communication. Period. End of. People who say, "but I use it to stay in touch with so-and-so". Really? You need Facebook to communicate with people? What was wrong with the mail, the phone, emails, texting, websites with bbs and private messaging (like this one), etc. It's laziness, and it forces us into making smaller tribes instead of living in the larger world (something the internet has been moving towards for years without people taking much notice). Social media is a scam. It tricks people into believing they need it because having followers and getting likes gives a false sense of importance and popularity. It's an ego trip, a popularity contest.

Yes! My thoughts exactly. .....don't get your comment about the "smaller tribes" tho...explain?

What exactly ARE "followers" and "likes"?

It helps me to stay in touch with friends who don´t live close to me and I think it´s a wonderful thing if used right. I also use it to read the news, which is quite practical depending on what kind of magazines and newspapers you´ve "liked".

What I don´t like is discussing Prince related stuff on FB. I like to keep org stuff and FB stuff separated. Many former orgers are on FB and kind of continue their org activities there, more or less, and some even discuss their frustration with the org but I still like both websites and enjoy them both.

It´s a bit weird though that the more people you have on your friendslist, the more you have to think about what you write and post there, whether it´s music videos, jokes, comments, whatever.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Buncha grumpy, cane-shaking old farts. lol

I don't need indoor plumbing and modern facilities to enable me to do what I do in the bathroom. I mean, pooping in a hole outdoors is perfectly adequate, but call me a narcissistic entitled snowflake, I'm all for making it more convenient. "Back in the day, we all _____, and it was good enough!" ~every generation. GTFOH.

Know what else is popular? Complaining about popular stuff. Congratulations. You're unique. Just like everyone else. Nobody cares that you don't facebook or twitter or snappy chat, and it's weird that anyone is annoyed by those who do.
