Alien: Covenant... 3/5...
Luckily not as horrible as that pretentious "Prometheus" fiasco, but sadly also not as amazingly great as "Alien"... Just a nice sunday afternoon popcorn flick with a cool Lovecraftian vibe...

Inglorious Basterds 4.5/5. I am so NOT the person who appreciates in-your-face violence and bloody brutality, but there is something about his movies that keep them hanging around for several days before you can let them go. Except the Kill Bill's. Hated those. Resevoir Dogs is brilliant. Django is another favorite. Inglorious Basterds is gripping, gritty, funny, and smart.

I love thast film, is brilliant.

Just watched "Shawshank Redemption" for the first time in years...and it holds up even better than I remember. A message about patience, survival, perseverance, reciprocity, and ultimately...hope. The memorable quotation from the movie: "Get busy living...or get busy dying." Five stars out of five.

The old man secuence is a masterpiece, heartbreaking and quite sad, but masterpiece nonetheless.

Last night I watched on Neflix War Machine (2017), it was an facinating story about a US/NATO operation in Afganistan. It had a excellent cast (Ben Kingsly, Tilda Swinton, Hopper Penn, Alan Ruck and Topher Grace) and it was really thought provoking and topical especially in these uncertain times. However, I found Brad Pitt's portayal of Gen. Glen McMahon to be annoying and over the top.....like a poor man's Patton meets Forest Gump (espcially the scenes where he was jogging). Anyway I give this film a 3.5 out of 5 popcorn

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

I'm giving it a B, merely because everytime I see Charlie Hunnam all I can think is Jax Teller. Also, the story didn't follow the classic story of King Arthur. But it had its funny moments and it had the intensity that I like when I'm watching a movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (2017)

Another really enjoyable installment of Marvel's best franchise. Like all comic book sequels, it repeats itself, but it never takes itself too seriously and may very well be one of the funniest movies of the year when it's all said and done.

Get Out (2017) - It's time for a young African American to meet with his white girlfriend's parents for a weekend in their secluded estate in the woods, but before long, the friendly and polite ambience will give way to a nightmare.

Lots of social commentary in this well done horror film. 4/5

Wonder Woman

It's not technically out until tomorrow but I just seen it about half hour ago. Very impressed. Similar kind of vibe to Captain America. Gal Gadot is perfectly cast. She was good in Dawn of Justice but she excels in her own movie. My only major complaint is that some of the special effects are a step below what you'd expect from a mega budget movie and kind of take you out of the scene. But overall, I really liked it.

It's already very similar to Captain America. Setting it during WW2 might have been a bit too far.

I don't know if you've seen it yet so I'll avoid saying anything that could ruin it for you or anyone else here but as far as the movie goes, I think WW1 makes more sense.

She possesses an arsenal of advanced technology, including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which serves as a projectile, and, in older stories, a range of devices based on Amazon technology. Wonder Woman was created during World War II; the character was initially depicted fighting Axis military forces as well as an assortment of colorful supervillains,

I wasn't familiar with the background of the character so her origins being changed didn't mean much to me. But there's always a chance that a sequel could have her in world war two. They could call the movie WW2 so that it stands for both World War 2 and Wonder Woman 2. My God, I'm a marketing genius smile

Sing Street (2016) - A boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s escapes his strained family life by starting a band to impress the mysterious girl he likes.

I watched this again recently. Still one of my top five films of 2016. 4.5/5

Yeah I think some other older DC Marvel characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America were created in the 30's/40's. Because of the war they made them fight the Nazi. Don't think any super hero was created during WW1

I watched Wonder Woman (2017) last night and really I enjoyed it, and I agree with you about some of the special effects a bit too CGI....but terms of the storyline, pacing and the soundtrack it was pretty solid compared to the Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad (which I felt still needed some tweaking). Across the board the cast was excellent, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine had great chemistry. But the standout for me was Robin Wright, who was awesome as General Antiope worship who would have thought that the same actress who played Princess Buttercup in the classic The Princess Bride (1986) would totally kick ass as a Amazon General (plus she is still amazing as Claire Underwood in House of Cards....Season 5 currently on Nexflix which I am binge watching at the moment). I most definitely will get this on blu-ray and I give this film a 4.5 out of 5 popcorn I loved the Wonder Woman tv series starring Lynda Carter, and I think it was sweet that they thanked her in the credits's Special Thanks (because according to the articles which I have read, she endorsed Gal and helped Patty Jenkins (who directed Charlize Theron in Monster (2003) with some insight about the character and why it has endured ('Wonder Woman' director sought Lynda Carter's support http://www.bakersfield.co...3905d.html ). touched thumbs up! Here my fav pic at the Wonder Woman Premiere biggrin

Wonder Woman
At times the pace feels slow, which would be more workable, I think, if a full, epic reveal of the title character's abilities were backloaded across the 2-hour-21-minute running time. By 30 minutes in, though, we've already seen glimpses of nearly all of Wonder Woman's wonder to come. That said, the payoff scenes are still great fun. Wonder Woman is badass -- and Gal Gadot offers a masterclass of balancing beauty and ferocity, naivete and knowing, scorn and compassion, tenderness and power to give us a layered Diana. I, too, thought the special effects were a bit throwing -- not so much for poor quality as for their overuse, particularly at the film's razzle-dazzle climax. But this is an American summer superhero flick, so.... Overall, quite satisfying.

7.5/10

Wonder Woman. And I'm giving it a 5/5. Great movie, but I absolutely love Gal. I was complaining that I didn't want a "built" lady to play Diana. I wanted her to be able to throw a tank of course but not look as though she could. I got my wish and I'm so glad. 5/5.

(Pouting because I wanted a tall blonde Aquaman but got tall dark Jason instead, so that movie is a 4/5 out the gate at best.)
What?

The change to WWI was a pretty clever creative liberty for Wonder Woman's producers to take, I think. Hero X vs. Hitler's regime is a premise that has been done to death. In this origin story, however, Wonder Woman isn't fighting any particular human baddie per se so much as the phenomenon of war itself -- and WWI was a war unlike any humanity had seen to that point.

Not really, that's like saying hey instead of Coke let's drink Pepsi. Yes Nazi thing has been done before but since that is nothing new for Wonder Woman I don't mind. Hey 30 years from now some lame ass might think the same thing and have Captain American coming from the Vietnam War and not WW2.
