Your Top Five Television Shows Of All Time

The only prerequisite is that you've watched them. You're not judging on popular opinion, you're judging on your experience having watched the whole series. Also,
You can list in random order, or specifically 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Make any small note you wish, or not.
Can't be in production currently. Meaning, the show is over. It could be in repeats or on DVD, but it doesn't have new episodes being currently produced. (Reboot shows are fine, like the upcoming Dynasty, Roseanne, Will & Grace, etc.)
You can include network or streaming shows that have ended.

Talk shows not included (Oprah, Donahue, etc).

For me:

Breaking Bad (you root more as the main character gets worse as a human)

Friends (the only shortcoming was Joey being interested in Rachel)

Will & Grace (groundbreaking in many ways)

Three's Company (John Ritter at his best in physical comedy; I loved him)

Roseanne (too many highlights to mention here)

Honorable mention: Melrose Place (for the sheer campiness of it)

Okay good shows, but you posted current shows. The rule was to post shows that have permanently ended. (I do love Shameless, tho.)

1. The Sopranos
Everything about The Sopranos is perfect. The writing, the casting, the performances. Without question, the best TV show ever made.

2. The Wire
Take what I wrote about The Sopranos and apply it here. Another perfect television show which just falls behind the number one spot.

3. Deadwood
Again, like the previous two, Deadwood is a show which is pitched to perfection. The only reason it's down at number 3 is because it only had 3 seasons and ended quite abruptly but for those three seasons, it was fantastic.

4. Justified
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who've never seen Justified, and those who love it. If you've never seen it, imagine a Dirty Harry movie with a Neo Nazi terrorist villain and that's just season 1.

5. Twin Peaks/Batman The Animated Series
I would normally have put Twin Peaks in this position but seeing as how that's been brought back and this list is supposed to be shows which have ended, I'll go with Batman. The animated series of the 90's is easily, and it's not even close, the best Batman related media ever created. It features the definitive portrayals of pretty much every character, from Batman to The Joker and somehow features a Robin who is not really annoying. It treats its audience with respect instead of dumbing things down because it's "a cartoon" and its episodes centering on characters like Mr Freeze and Two Face are so much more believable and dramatic than any Batman movie has managed so far.

Here is my All-Time Top 5 List tv

1. White Collar (for Matt Bomer love )

2. A Different World (Great cast, topical storylines (AIDS episode in 91) and musical guests eg. Heavy D and The Boyz.

3. Moonlighting (Bruce & Cybill had great chemistry.....but the show jumped the major shark when they got together)

4. Dynasty (The cast, over the top story lines...eg. Moldovia masacre cliffhanger episode in 1986, the fashions and fights between Crystal and Alexis worship )

5. Dr Quinn Medicine Woman (you can play the drinking game beer when Dr Quinn had to perform a life saving brain operation on nearly everyone in the town. Or when the local bar owner Hank would say "We don't like......." in nearly every episode lol

That's a pretty major rule and it should have been in the thread title honestly. I didn't bother to read the lengthy first post when I saw a bunch of lists already posted. These are my all time faves and it doesn't matter if The Simpsons won't die, the Roseanne reboot sucks, Shameless and The Americans hit the skids during their final season, and OITNB bones the fish. They've earned their spot in my list already.

But If I may only pick shows that have forever ended:

Murphy Brown

Bewitched

Lost

House

Pioneers of Television

If only HBO was run then like it is today, a show that highly acclaimed wouldn't be canned without a proper conclusion (see the modestly rated 'The Leftovers').

The weird thing is, it wasn't even a show that had really bad ratings anyway. But at least they're making a movie now to finish it off.

Dang it, I forgot about that one.

I'm telling you, no matter how times I see it, I always discover little things I've missed in the past; same with Homicide. Also, theshow, in my opinion, has some of the most wonderfully complex characters in television history.

Side note: Tom Fontana was the Executive Producer of both OZ and Homicide. David Simon, who started off as a writer (and later producer) on Homicide, went on to create The Wire, The Corner and Treme.
