I recently saw Grease on the big screen. First time seeing it. I know it's a classic but i don't think it holds up. I found it rather creepy actually. Like some of the music, but time has not been kind.

I held off on Jurassic Park too, thinking it might be overhyped. It's not. It's Speilberg at his best. And time has been very very kind to it. Especially the effects. For such an old movie, the CGI looks as good and even better than on a lot of newer films. I think that they used it sparingly and spent the time and effort on the practical props went a long way in making it all so much better than today's sloppy cheesy CGI.

Movies don't have to be the most important thing in everyone's life. I will never watch Silence of the Lambs now.

Foreign films -- past and present -- are essential for serious cinephiles.

I'd include The Seven Samaurai and The Seventh Seal in the canon of classic foreign films.

My favorite foreign film of all time remains Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).

i have huge holes in my foreign film vocabulary. i've seen my share of bergman, dipped into kirosawa, but i've let a lot of really essential things lapse.

.

and there are a vast amount of what i'll roughly describe as pre-1960 films i have to get to someday. i've barely seen a powell-pressburger film. i believe i've seen one and only one john ford western. as it said on my 7th grade report card, i must try harder.

.

i've also missed out on a lot of modern blockbusters, but most of those don't weigh on me much. i've never seen a harry potter film, and i don't really feel a pressing need to. if i was at someone's place and they put one on, i wouldn't object hotly, but i'm not going to press play myself.

Lte's put it this way: When it comes to all the sci-fi stuff, like Star Wars, Star Trek, Potter, Lord of the Rings, Avatar, etc., the only movies I have seen are:

The first three Star Wars movies they made (whatever the hell numbers they are, who knows?)
The first Star Trek movie
The other Star Trek movie where Captain Kirk yells "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!"

I've seen "The Godfather", "Goodfellas" and "The Valachi Papers". I will soon be watching "Miller's Crossing" and writing an epic review on it.

So there's a lot I haven't seen. But I have seen "Animal House" about 500 times.

You would like the new star war movies. I don't think you would like the prequel star war movies.

I own the Harry Potter movies

The Godfather movies

The original 3 Star Wars movies

Lord of the Rings trilogy

Goodfellas

Me too . . . including 400 Blows, Hidden Fortress, and others.

I've got to make a bigger dent as well. When I was getting multiple DVDs through Netflix, I'd make a point to get one new release, one recent release, and one classic release. That helped a lot.

Many blockbusters aren't worth seeing unless you're a fan of a specific franchise(s). But I was never into Potter films. I figure if I see one sequence on cable every so often I'm good.

Did it say classics, I thought it was famous movies?

A lot of classic movies, I've gotten around to eventually. Pretty much everything I've seen mentioned so far I've seen at least once.
