For Six Feet Under fans (the show)

So, about a year and a half ago, I watched the entire SFU series. Despite some of it's minor imperfections, I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it yet. The one thing that's stayed with me since I finished it was my utter amazement with it's music choices. Whoever chose the music (be it a group of people, or a single person) had astronomical taste, and they had a keen ear knowing a perfect track to go with whatever mood the scene it was called for. One character in particular was gifted with the best of the best music during the show's run; Brenda. While watching the show, I noticed that every single time a scene took place at Brenda's house (and later apartment), the music stopped me dead in my tracks. The music for these particular scenes were made up mostly of beautiful ambient/trip-hop/chill songs (huge fan of this gorgeous genre), and nearly every single one made me scream "That's SO dope!!!" to myself in my head. I made a promise to myself to one day research and locate each song, scene by scene starting from the beginning, and create a playlist. I was that moved by what I had heard. Well yesterday at work, it was very slow and I had much time to kill. I was on Tidal and the thought occured to me to finally do it. I thought it was going to be much more difficult than I had envisioned, but I found a great website called what-song.com and it broke down every single song from every episode with a brief synopsis saying what was happening in the scene while the song was playing. Whatever ones had Brenda's name in the synopsis were going on this play list. I went episode by episode, season by season, flip-flopping between that site and Tidal to see if the song was available. Surprisingly enough, all but maybe 3-4 songs were right at my fingertips. It was a labor of love, but listening to it today made me so happy I had actually done it. I know for a fact some of the tunes are not from the house/apartment scenes, so a few sound out of place next to the cooled-out downtempo stuff. It's a work in progress and I will weed them out very soon. If you love the show (or if you just love this kind of music), then this is for you and I'm happy to share it with you all. Enjoy! Edit: After initially posting this, I realized I couldn't embed the playlist like I had hoped, which is a real bummer confused . Here is the link instead: tidal.com/playlist/547f31ad-9e27-4039-ad0a-c1c1d839129f

Six Feet Under is one of those series one must own. I loved it. The Org loved it. It was talked about a lot around these parts when it was airing and shortly after it went away.

Excellent. Thanks for this.

Six Feet Under is one of my favourite TV series ever. The finale literally changed my life -- or rather inspired the audacity for me to do so.

I totally agree. IMHO the first 2 seasons are absolutely goddamn stellar, but starting with season 3 it slowly (and I mean slowly) started to decline. I really didn't care for the whole plot about Lisa disappearing. Matter of fact, I didn't really like Lisa at all, and I feel like she slowed the season down. Nevertheless, the show was still wonderful throughout the duration, its just 1 and 2 were on another level. The scene when Nate reveals to David that he's ill and he breaks down on David's shoulder is probably my favorite scene of the show, and one of my favorite scenes of all-time. Oh, and the one where Nate Jr. takes E and has the dream where Nate Sr. is playing Chinese Checkers with Life and Death, and Nate Jr. bets everything (BTW, the song playing during this scene is the very last song on my Brenda playlist). The show was hella-deep, and deeply observational to the point where pretty much everything going on had more than one meaning. Wonderful stuff, and one of HBO's very best shows.

Man, it was my pleasure! Thank you for taking the time and checking it out. I agree the finale was pretty great, and I was happy to see that David, Claire and Ruth all lived for a long time after and led fulfilling lives, especially after going through the heartbreak and trauma that happened throughout the 5 seasons. I wouldn't say it's my absolute favorite show of all-time (that dubious honor goes to The Wire), but it's for sure in my top 5, possibly top 3. And the replay value of it is crazy. You can discover many, many things you missed the first time around, and again and again.

Six Feet Under might have been the first show with a continuous story of the "golden age of television" that I watched. Or The Sopranos, I don't remember. Anyway, it is so, so good but I also remember it being VERY intense sometimes, so I haven't watched it a second time yet. And also because there's just too much other good stuff to watch. lol

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?
