i really love in bruges, & that would probably be my choice. i even saw it based on your rating here, not that i'm trying to pad your ego or anything!

Hah, I'd recommend In Bruges to everyone. Everyone except RodeoSchro.
The Apartment is a good New Year's Eve movie if you dread going out that night (like I do).

To me, a film is a Christmas movie if it's set entirely during the holidays. So I would consider Die Hard a Christmas movie, but not Goodfellas which takes place all year round. But if watching Beach Blanket Bingo during the holidays is an annual tradition for you then whatever floats your boat. |

A Christmas Carol the 1951 Alastair Sim version is my favorite but I watch the others numerous times during December Including: Scrooge 1935, starring Seymore Hicks A Christmas Carol 1938,starring Reginald Owens A Christmas Carol 1984 starring George C.Scott A Christmas Carol 1999,starring Patrick Stewart.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (my Mom is nearly 80 and still loves this one) Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Miracle on 34th Street the 1947 version and the 1994 version
I think with A Christmas Carol I enjoy watching each actor giving their own interpretation of Ebenezer Scrooge. |

1. Die Hard (honestly, did you REALLY expect me to have another favorite Christmas movie?) 2. A Christmas Story 3. Home Alone
I have never watched "It's a Wonderful Life" all the way through. I've seen the ending of it several times and it never did anything for me. I guess I should watch the whole thing, and I will...unless "Die Hard" is on! |

Ha! I've seen it. It's OK. However, it is my son's favorite movie of all time. So at least SOMEone in my family has tastes similar to yours, LOL.

I watch Christmas movies more often than any other kind because I know if I don't watch them during the holiday season then I have to wait a whole year before I can enjoy them again. If you look through past movie rating threads, I think I reviewed my top two Christmas movies the last three years in a row. I hate watching Christmas movies when it isn't Christmas. Bleh.
Do you listen to X-mas songs year-round or around the Holiday season? |

It's the same with my Christmas albums. I retire them on January 1st never to be heard again until December after I put up my Christmas tree.

We do that too.
Nobody seems to have mentioned Trading Places yet - that's another classic with a Christmas setting.

I love Trading Places but I was only allowed name 3 movies so I didn't mention it. But that's another favourite of mine. |

Some other really good Christmas movies from France:
A Christmas Tale (2008) -- Like Family Stone but far more somber.
Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) (2005) -- About a cease fire on the front lines of World War I over the Christmas holidays. Inspiring, bittersweet and at times heartbreaking. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder |

#1 on my list posted earlier. I watch it every year, usually on Christmas Eve. For me it's not Christmas without seeing this movie.

1. Remember the Night - Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray, with Beulah Bondi and Sterling Holloway
2. The Bishop's Wife - Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven. (TCM isn't showing it this year - how does such a thing happen?)
3. It's a Wonderful Life - James Stewart, Donna Reed - with an amazing supporting cast. Plus, Frank Capra directed.
You can always be depended on to show up with the classics |
