Black Mirror - New Series

Anyone a fan of Charlie Brooker?

The episode of a PM having to shag a pig was prophetic...

Just ask David Cameron!

Speaking of prophetic, many people have noted that the U.S. is currently living through "The Waldo Moment" episode.

As much as I don't watch a lot of tv or follow any specific series, I have heard enough about this one to pique my interest. I plan to check it out this weekend.

wait New? or new in the US? isn't this a few years old? I think i have seen 4 or 5 of these... good shows most are near future about technology... i think there is one where people are forced to watch ads on big screens...

i sort of disliked this show's opener (the prime minister and the pig) so stopped watching it back then. the other day i watched the first two episodes of Black Mirror season 3 and liked it.

the themes are pretty intense and i find they get under my skin more than i'd like them to. the show forces my mind to take directions i'd rather not take, so i only watch it in little bits now and then. guess i'm a big fat chicken when it comes to the really scary stuff pumpkin boxed

I have only recently heard of it because, again, I just don't watch much tv, but my understanding is that it's a new season out that's getting a lot of attention.

The new series is really good. Very uncomfortable and challenging in places. I thought the direction was outstanding too. Any episode from the new series could have been a film.

I'd also recommed "Dead Set" which IIRC was a mini-series charlie wrote before Black Mirror.

Screen Wipe / News Wipe / Games Wipe are all on YouTube if you'd prefer to see an angry bloke shout fuck at his tv a lot.

when i first watched the series, that episode was my least favourite because i thought it was a little too obvious & unrealistic, something i wouldn't have said about the other ones.

and it turned out to be the most immediately prophetic episode.

i haven't watched the new season yet, but i definitely will soon. i'm a big fan.

It first dawned on me when I was in Toronto for the holidays last year and having a conversation about politics with a relative that this was a case of life imitating art. Maybe being outside the U.S. at the time gave me some clarity, hah.

I don't have a Netflix account and watched the first two seasons on disc so I'll have to find a creative way to watch season three.

I became obsessed with the show when it first appeared on Netflix. I've greatly enjoyed the 4 episodes of season 3 I have seen so far. I like the idea of taking these tech advances to their logical endpoint, where convenience becomes a means of controlling the people.

.

The American Idol Slave Camp one was one of the most clever and affecting shows I've ever seen in my life. None of the eps in the current season match up, so far, but the last one I saw (San Junipero) actually had a kind of uplifting conclusion. And the Christmas episode where the guy is trying to smash the radio that plays nothing but "I Wish It Could Be Xmas Evey Day" was one of the most darkly funny things I've seen in a long time. I guess I'd call it my Favorite Show.

That's where the name "Black Mirror" comes from. Refering to a screen that's been switched off.

The idea for Black Mirror makes sense when you look at some of Mr Brookers earlier TV work:

Yeah? I assumed it was because the series shows us are a darker version of our society.

This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The "black mirror" of the title is the one you'll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone.

But I think they probably went with the title because of the double meaning.

I didn't really like the first 3 episodes of season 3 a bit over the top to me, especially the whole dream within in a dream inception-like theme, too much and no point. But I did like the last 3 a lot.
