Final Rogue One Trailer released today, new TFA deleted scene

And I'm finally sold on this movie. I'll be going opening weekend, not night time preview showing like with TFA.

I'm slightly disappointed that Hayden Christensen isn't playing Darth Vader but that aside, this is Star Wars so I'm already sold on it.

He's too short. They'd actually need to replace his legs for longer mechanical ones to make him the correct David Prowse height. Not sure even Daniel Day Lewis would take method acting that far.

In the theatrical cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens we last saw Unkar Plutt on the planet Jakku watching Rey and Finn blast off with Millennium Falcon. However, as Han Solo said, it's possible that others could have tracked the ship as well. That's how Plutt ends up in Maz Kanata's establishment in a scene that was originally cut from the film. He confronts Rey and things are looking bad until Chewbacca intervenes, but it's what happens next that we don't see here that may have us buying a new copy of the movie.

According to Entertainment Weekly, after Unkar Plutt gets in Chewbacca's face, the Wookie gets violent. He tears Plutt's arms off. That's not a figurative statement. Way back in Star Wars: A New Hope Han Solo implies over the chess board that Wookies have been known to tear people's arms out of their sockets. In this scene, we'll get to see exactly what that looks like. It appears Simon Pegg won't be back for the sequels.

While we were warned at the beginning of the franchise how violent Wookies could be, it's not something we ever saw in Chewbacca. He was most a cuddly sidekick and even when he was in a fight, it never ended quite as violently as this moment reportedly does. It's not clear exactly what sets Chewbacca off. maybe getting poked in his wound pisses him off, or maybe Unkar Plutt is just too big a jerk to ignore.

If we were to guess, we'd say the violent Chewbacca response was the reason this scene was cut. Unkar Plutt himself doesn't look completely finished in the clip, like the digital effects folks were told to stop working before they were done, because the scene wasn't going in. While lost limbs are not anything new to Star Wars movies, this scene sounds darker and more violent than anything else in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It probably just didn't fit with the rest of the tone of the movie.

They should have left it in. Not only is it a nice little tip of the hat to the line in a new hope, but it would have been really cool to see exactly why you should never fuck with a wookie.
