Hurricane Matthew - It's real, and it's spectacular
Hurricane Matthew: Evacuations begin as deadly storm nears (CNN)With Hurricane Matthew ready to slam the United States in the next day or two, time is running out to get ready. The deadly storm could make landfall Friday morning on Florida's east coast, CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen said.
"I cannot emphasize enough that everyone in our state must prepare now for a direct hit," Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday. As of Wednesday afternoon, Matthew hurled 120 mph (195 kph) winds as it churned toward the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center said.
The hurricane was about 70 miles (115 kilometers) south of Long Island, Bahamas, and was moving northwest at 12 mph.
Forecasters predicted Matthew will strengthen to a Category 4 hurricane by the time it lashes Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina sometime between Thursday evening and Saturday. President Barack Obama warned Americans in the storm's path to pay attention and take any evacuation orders seriously. He said if the core of the storm strikes Florida, it could have a "devastating effect." [Edited 10/5/16 14:12pm] "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Everyone be safe! Better to be too cautious than the other way around. I know this from experience!

I know this is a serious issue and I hope everyone in the vicinity of the hurricane makes it through OK. But the title of this thread just makes me think of Terri Hatcher...

I highly advise anyone in the path of the hurricane to evacuate as far inland as you can.

I hope people who tried to get out did and those who didn't will be safe. It's been a long time since I went through a Florida hurricane but they ain't no joke. I'm hoping I don't jinx myself, but I am absolutely amazed I haven't lost power yet. Went off for a half-second twice, but still on. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. Well I lucked out, no property damage and I didn't even lose power Fox News anchor Shep Smith issued some terrifying proclamations urging people to evacuate before Hurricane Matthew makes landfall in Florida on Friday. "This moves 20 miles to the west, and you and everyone you know are dead — all of you — because you can't survive it. It's not possible unless you're very, very lucky," he said on his show Thursday afternoon. "And your kids die, too."

Damn. I'm still wondering how Florida has managed to dodge so many destructive hurricanes over the years... So many times they turn at the last minute... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I'm close to Tallahassee, on the GA side. There is hardly a hotel room to be found within a several county area here. If you're coming to GA for shelter, you're going to have to go further north and/or west. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

Hurricane Katrina was way worse Hurricane Matthew. And I would know because I survive it in Metairie, Louisiana. But still, Florida, Georgia, & The Carolinas are going to be OK.

Florida and South Carolina definitely lucked out, no doubt about it. Coulda been much much worse. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."
