I can't remember VHS - probably some Prince thing I taped but I go to the drive-in all the time in the summer.

I haven't been to a drive-in movie since the 70s so I really don't remember. I want to say it was the PG version of Saturday Night Fever, but the memory of me asking my mum to go see it is much more distinct (she didn't know it had been re-cut and her response was that movie isn't for kids lol ) than any recollection of seeing the movie itself at a drive-in.

Superman Returns 2006, is the movie I remember but I know I've been since 2006, I'd say at least 2012. The Drive-In was wonderful with kids (or a very talkative relative), especially with 3 screens and 2 movies per screen.

eek Omigosh, that's going way back! I suppose it was the one I took my Mom to see before the last Drive In Movie place closed down in my hometown... I believe it was Romancing The Stone.

There Are 338 Drive-In Theaters Left in America — Here’s Where to Find Them

LEIGH LUMFORD JUN. 17, 2014

drivein2

.

I can practically hear The National flowing through the car speakers of America’s youth on their way down the highway to the most wholesome way to spend a Friday night. The drive-in is about as American as it gets. We love our cars and going to the movies is the standard fallback plan every weekend. However, many of these beloved outdoor screens are in constant peril of closing, reopening, and closing again.

.

This summer, many theaters will be showcasing a live stream Jimmy Buffet concert, which in 2014 doesn’t seem to fit, but does the drive-in belong in the age of iPads and 3-D printing? The biggest event to happen to the drive-in industry, switching to digital, is advertised on dated websites with glittery backdrops that remind you of an early America Online profile. So why do we go? Why fight to keep these relics open? Because the drive-in’s quaint nature is no more than it advertises. In its simplicity, affordable tickets bring communities together on sticky summer nights and that’s a rarity today. Whether you go to the Starlite, Sky Vue Twin, or the pun-tastic Field of Scenes, the drive-in will give you a few hours of uncomplicated, buffering-free entertainment, so why not?

There are still two here in San Diego...we used to go pretty much every other weekend in the summer, when the kids were little. I can't remember the last movie we saw, but I do remember my wife and I going alone, getting stoned as fuck and watching "Pineapple Express". You could smell the weed EVERYWHERE! Good times...

Make it so, Number One...

Frank: Jane, what can you tell me about the man you saw last night?
Jane: He was caucasian.
Frank: Caucasian?
Jane: Yeah, you know, a white guy. With a moustache, about 6 foot 3.
Frank: That's an awfully big moustache...

We never really had one in the Netherlands (as far as I'm aware) but I did see the first Batman movie in a football stadium. I believe the reason why they featured it on a large sreen outside was because Prince wrote the music. Was pretty cool at the time.

The End (1978).jpg

It was my parent's date night, so me and my sister had sleeping bags in the back of the station wagon. They were playing Star Wars on a different screen behind us, though half the screen was shielded by trees - but we watched that instead.

This is a cool idea for a post! Now I'm going to want to take my daughter to see a drive in movie before they disappear smile. 90 minutes and a ferry ride away...
