I presume the original poster means that it is unpopular with certain figures in authority as it has en eye-opening message.

I do sometimes wonder if Anonymous is the closest we have ever got to Batman, a symbol that cannot be defeated.

It's ratings are free falling.

It never got good ratings, but it's getting critical.

My take is that with rants like these, the general public is turned off. It's insulting them.

I love the show even though I'm not up on all the easter eggs the show supposedly has hidden in each episode.

Apparently our lives aren't complete until we watch this. I've never seen it, but I can put this on my List Of Things That I Have Never Watched, Read Or Listened To, But Have In Reserve For Any Time In My Life That I Either Get Bored Or Suddenly Have A Lot Of Free Time On My Hands (I call this the "LOTTIHNWROLTBHIRFATIMLTIEGBOSHALOFTOMH" list).

My LOTTIHNWROLTBHIRFATIMLTIEGBOSHALOFTOMH list currently contains stuff like:

1. Listen to Pink Floyd songs
2. Watch "The Sopranos"
3. Listen to David Bowie songs
4. Watch the "Lord of The Rings" movies
5. Read a biography; any biography will do. Well to be honest, I'd like to start with an Andy Warhol biography
6. Watch "Avatar"
7. Listen to "This American Life"
8. And now, watch "Mr. Robot"

That's just a partial list. What's on your LOTTIHNWROLTBHIRFATIMLTIEGBOSHALOFTOMH list?

Must say I couldn't disagree more, it is a huge critical success and the ratings are doing great. Perhaps you didn't take into account the delayed viewing through on demand as it is through Amazon Prime. http://uk.businessinsider...ngs-2016-7

This is primarily an on demand show.

As for insulting the general public, I really don't understand your point. Are you saying that any criticism of Uber-Capitialism is unacceptable. There is a strong argument that there has never been a more important time to look at the failings of capitalism and question the fanatic almost religious-like belief that it receives. Certainly, here in Europe the show is regarding as one of the best shows of the past few years. An 8.8 Rating on IMDB really is pretty impressive, even higher on Rotten Tomatoes.

It may be a little nuanced, complex and challenging for some tastes but the most recent episode with the Chess game and Seventh Seal references was just remarkable.

Just to clarify, what is it that Eliot said that you actually think is not true?

i went from loving it to rolling my eyes about 10 times each episode lol

thougt i'd give season 2 a go, but didn't make it past 4 minutes into the
recap episode for season 1.

i don't think it's losing so many viewers because it insults 'regular' folks
who watch it, i think it's losing the audience who they tried to reach for
and probably hooked at the very beginning.

people like me, the ones who are kind of full of themselves, who think
they've seen it all, know a lot and enjoy difficult movies or books, even
if there really isn't any real point to them other than being difficult and
up their own arse lol

but it fails to deliver on that too because the so called shocking truths
and revelations are just repackaged, regurgitated bits of information a
person who keeps themselves informed already heard and saw many
times before.

the rest of it, the day to day struggles of these people, i've seen before
too, in a million other shows. the big reveal/twist that you could see
coming from miles off was where it really started grating on me. why?
why does someone's motivation always have to come from such very
far fetched or unlikely places?

maybe it's more to do with me being almost 40, and slightly bitter falloff

anywho, this show tries to be to smart for it's own good but fails quite
badly to deliver. i always laugh at the diss in that first clip, about the
hunger games. when the social commentary is pretty much the same,
underneath the thinly spread layer of marketable veneer lol

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

My point is that I knew this show would be in trouble when in the "Normal Life" clip he says "I'll go see those stupid Marvel movies with her". Right there I saw a limited audience for it.

I don't think anything he said wasn't true, but the average public will think it pretentious and feel "this guy doesn't like anything, he hates anything that's fun". You know the critique.

Another thing is all the hidden references. I love the fact that I miss a lot of them and I do feel you can enjoy the show without catching them all, but some people might feel something is missing. It's an action show with no action. Like "The Good Wife" most might think it boring and slow, when the reality is that's the furthest from the truth.

I must say I think there is some misunderstanding regarding the audience figures. Here in the UK the only way to access the new series is through Amazon Prime and not 'live' tv. To be honest I don't think I have watched live tv for over a decade. almost everything is on-demand or Tivo or Amazon Prime. Live television ratings are somewhat old-fashioned. Certainly the demographic the show appeals to (and I woud argue it has a fairly wide appeal would usually watch on demand.

I think you are righ that a lot is going on and actually there is a lot of action when you look at it. It may not be the typical explosions every five minutes but it makes some very profound points about the society in which we live. It is certainly hugely popular here in the UK and teh first series is now being re-shown on the USA Network which we have here.

I think there is so much to explore, Eliot#s Extreme Mental Illness, the role of organisations like Anonymous who can achieve results that other groups cannot, the Evil Corp business which has so many parallels, so, so much to engage.

I have to honest - I didn't know the USA Network was still on the air. I thought it had been maybe bought and had its name changed.

The last things I remember seeing on the USA Network were 328 episodes of "Wings" and that movie show "Up All Night".

I think it has relevance to any country that is largely capitalistic, has any kind of personal debt, computer technology or large inequality.
