STAR TREK BEYOND...(spoilers)

So, this whole Spoke Prime thing is still messing with me....so awkward. disbelief

As I was watching it struck me that William Shatner is old enough to be my father while Chris Pine is younger than my son. Talk about a time warp. He is about a thousand times cuter than Shatner though.

Anyhoo, it was fun. I think that this crew is the best since TNG as far as chemistry and acting ability. As far as the storyline, I think that Lin brought too much of a Fast and Furious vibe to the table. I would have preferred a little less testosterone. Star Trek TOS always had a guiding philosophy as well as action and you dont get much of that these days. It's a pretty straightforward script, meaning don't expect any meaningful plot twists.

It was kind of sad watching Anton because of his untimely death. He sees lots of action in this flick.

i was surprised by Irdis Elba's character because I didn't read any write-ups before going to see the movie. I normally like him but his Krall didn't impress me.

Lots of romaticizing of Star Fleet in general and the Enterprise in particular....no true trekkie will be disappointed about that though.

I am still weirded out by the romance between Spock and Urura. Who gonna wait seven damn years for some Vulcan to get it up? eek

The visuals are stunning. Lots of interesting angles and special effects befitting a Trek movie.

I forgot to ask...is it me or does Jayla remind anybody else of Zoe Saldana's character in Avatar?

I'm not a fan of the series but since it's the big movie of the weekend I went to check it out. It's good for the casual fan like me and I know enough about the characters by proxy so everyone acted exactly as I would expect if it was still on TV. New Spock and McCoy were a cool team, Idris was OK as the villain - it was about an hour into the movie when I figured out Krall was him - but I did'nt understand how or why he went bad. The new female Jayla was a cool but typical strong fighter, Kirk was being Kirk and I actually liked Pegg as Scotty. As a casual watcher, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

I had no clue who Krall was until they spelled it out for me. lol

It will probably appeal to a lot of casual fans like you because you don't have to know any backstory/canon to enjoy it. nod

But life happened and I didn't go. sigh I miss Karl, another very private June 7th baby, am I caught in a trend here? Can I go smack him for no reason? Anyway I'm catching it soon. LLAP.

I fell in love with Karl in LOTR and he is one of my fellow Gems born on Prince's bday.

But I think Chris Pine is way cuter. biggrin

Whew, back on topic. You should go ASAP because you sound like you could use a nice movie right about now. comfort Honestly this is the first time I really enjoyed something since we lost our beloved Princey. There's not a lot of the philosophical themes of classic Trek but it was still fun.

Chris isn't for me but I get the appeal.

Oh I'm catching it regardless, as a ST fan I welcome keeping the world alive, even if it isn't perfect. Now we're getting a regular series again. *fingers crossed*

I wish they'd find a place for Nichelle just once, I think she's one who hasn't made an appearance in any of the reboots except for once on YT

I could watch both Chris, (Pine and Helmsworth), read the phone book, lol

Poor Nichelle was hospitalized last year with a stroke for a few days so maybe she's being careful. I just ordered an Uhura Barbie Collectors Doll a couple of days ago.

It's funny how committed we are to this franchise. I geek out so much that I won't leave the theatre until I hear the theme and I always get a little teary when the Enterprise first appears on screen. I'm like that with every new ST release..... disbelief touched biggrin

Did she go up on some space mission earlier this year or late last year. m looking it up, but naw she ain't slowing it down that slow she can't make a screen appearance. But I guess it's hard at this point as her orginal character.

I love seeng Black Folks geek out over ST. We see ourselves in the future world also.

Found it.

Actress Nichols recently rode a promotional flight on NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), a modified Boeing 747SP aircraft equipped with a large infrared reflector telescope. She describes the airborne observatory’s science quest.

indeed! I've never seen a F&F movie though, but less action & speed would have been appreciated

I gave my first impression already in that other ST thread, and after a few days I'm still confused as what to think... I'm sure I will watch this again and also will be able enjoy it as a stand alone movie, but I will say what I already said about ST Into Darkness: a good movie? yes. a good Star Trek movie? nope.

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Yeah, I remember the mission. She also appeared at Comic Con this month.

I'm thinking in terms of filming a movie, which can be a long, drawn out process unless you just do a cameo.

Speaking of geeking out, you should have seen me the time Spock died....I was a mess, lol

I'm sure I'll see it again as well as buy it on dvd but a good Trek movie must have a solid philosophical concept to debate. I think that's what's missing.
