Rating Tarentino movies? Can I play???? Great, here goes!

1. Pulp Fiction - One of the best movies EVER - if you're a guy. Some girls like this too, but most don't and I completely get it. But I'm a dude, so star star star star star

2. Inglorious Basterds - SPOILER ALERT. I mean, come on! If you haven't seen this movie by now, that's on you and I don't feel bad about telling you they blow away Hitler at the end. How cool was that! star star star star

3. Reservoir Dogs - A classic, although it ruined "Stuck in the Middle With You" for me. But who cares! Mr. Pink RULED. Steve Buscemi deserved an Oscar, as far as I'm concerned. The whole movie was great. Heck, I probably ought to rate this one at #2 except they didn't kill Hitler in this movie star star star star

4. Death Proof - OK now for me, the drop-off in quality is steep. This is a good movie but it's not great. Neat twist at the end, what with SPOILER ALERT Kurt Russell getting bludgeoned to death. But this is not really a memorable movie IMO (I had to look up everything about it on wikipedia) star star 1/2

5. The Hateful Eight - As you might have surmised if you read my review of this movie and yet see this ranked #5, I haven't seen many more Tarentino movies. This movie was too long and too boring. It was pretty to look at, that's all star star

6. Kill Bill, Vol. 2 - Completely stupid movie. I thought maybe because I've never seen Vol. 1 that maybe I was missing out on really cool and important stuff that would make Vol. 2 a great movie, but nope. I read up on Vol. 1 and I'm sure I missed nothing. star 1/2

I haven't seen any other Tarentino movies, except does "Natural Born Killers" count, even though only the story is his, and he didn't direct it? Because if it does, then it comes in at #4 and gets star star star 1/2.

Kill Bill saga is great man, what's wrong with u is badass saga

To each their own:

KILL BILL VOL. 2

I watched most of "Kill Bill Vol. 2" yesterday. Here's how much I liked it:

I would switch the channel periodically because "Rambo II" was playing on a Spanish station.

That's right - I would choose Sylvester Stallone mumbling in Spanish over Uma Thurman doing whatever it was she was doing.

Now, I get that the "Kill Bill" movies (it was supposed to be one movie) were Tarantino's homage to karate flicks. But it wasn't a very good homage, IMO. He switched from old-school-karate movie style to American movie style too many times. Heck, even one switch of styles would have been too much.

The story was not very good. Of course, keep in mind that I've never seen Vol. 1. Who knows, maybe all questions are answered. But I read the plot summary and don't feel like I am lacking any essential knowledge.

What happened to Darryl Hannah after she got blinded? She was one bad b**** but Michael Madsen didn't see the black adder coming? C'mon! Dude had just offed Uma (so he thought). Surely he had some game. He HAD to know that a badass killer like Darryl Hannah wasn't going to let him keep a suitcase full of money. Why he didn't spike her margarita I don't know. But I knew for sure there was no way Hannah was letting him keep that suitcase.

And again - what happened to Hannah after she was blinded? Major plot hole because you know that after she got her eye hole closed up, she was going to figure out some way to kill Uma. The last scene shows Uma and her daughter driving away, living happily ever after. But no way! Not with Darryl Hannah still alive. Heck, the last thing Uma heard Hannah say was "I'm going to kill you! I'm going to kill you!" It's like Tarantino just forgot about Hannah. Oops.

The final scene was stupid, too. "I love you but I am going to kill you" never plays well. So Uma gives Bill the Five Fingered Death Move and then cries about it? And you take five steps and then die? Bull hockey! If I ever got the Five Fingered Death Move, I'd just sit down and not take any steps. I'd call the doctors and have them come get me. Then I'd go to the hospital and either get my heart fixed, or get a new heart. All without taking those five steps.

But Bill just gets up and walks away? "How do I look?" he says. "Like you're ready" Uma says. Give me a break! So Bill, who loves his daughter, is just going to take those five steps, instead of activating the RodeoSchro Five Fingered Death Move Survival Strategy outlined above? I'm not buying it.

I give "Kill Bill Vol. 2" only 1 1/2 Fingers of the Actual Five Finger Death Move. And I am really glad I got to watch Sylvester Stallone lay waste to the North Vietnamese Army, and it didn't matter that they all were speaking Spanish.

Tarantino has said he purposely left Darryl Hannah alive so that she could appear in a future sequel, possibly as a trainer for a certain other character who was left alive from part one. I won't spoil who but you should probably watch them in the right order to get the full effect. As you said, they were originally one movie so imagine just tuning in to the second half of a movie and trying to follow it. Even if you read up on the half you missed, you don't get the full experience. Besides, in my opinion, Volume 1 is much better and is perfect as a standalone movie in its own right.

Sausage Party (2016) - A sausage strives to discover the truth about his existence.

I've avoided Seth Rogen movies in the past and the crass humor in this film only confirms that was the right decision. 2/5

Our Brand Is Crisis (2015) starring Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton. Its about a American political consultant know as "Calamity Jane" is sent to help re-elect a controversial president in Bolivia the "amercian way", while competing with a long-term rival working for another candidate. Its also based on the 2005 documentary of the same name, which use to be available on Netflix. I really enjoyed this film and its a great companion piece to the doco, which I also highly recommend because they are funny, thought provoking and quite timely in this current political climate. I give them 4 out of 5 popcorn

i just upgraded my tv, so i've been re-watching some old favorites. last night was 'magnolia'...

fucking brilliant. when people talk about the art of american cinema, this is the movie that should be held as the shining pinnacle. the performances, the premise, the casting (tom cruise in a career justifying role, and melora walters?! jfc!), the visuals, the absurdity...it really doesn't get better than this in my opinion. it's 3 hours of cinematic bliss.

contrarily, i recently attempted to watch the ultimate edition of 'batman v superman', which also clocks in at 3 hours...what a slog. this movie is an indefensible piece of garbage. i turned it off at batman stepping on superman's neck, superman whining 'maaarrrrtthaaa, must save maaarrtha...'. tripe.

[Edited 7/26/16 5:13am]

I loved Magnolia up until the end. Then it got stupid. Tom Cruise was brilliant though. I think people are a bit hard on Batman v Superman. The "Martha" scene seems to be the main focus of the criticisms but aside from it being a little heavy handed, I thought it made sense. Batman no longer sees Superman as this potentially dangerous alien, and instead sees some humanity in him. It is a bit strange that Superman suddenly begins calling his mother by her name, but like I said, it's not perfect. Ben Affleck is my favourite live action Batman though. That Batmobile chase and the fight scene against Lex's hired goons are two of the best moments in any superhero movie.

I saw it a while back, I agree Tom Cruise was amazing and IMO should have gotten the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor that year. However, I couldn't understand the meaning behind the raining of frogs scene, does anyone know? confuse

I think (17-year-old memory) it connects the huge disparate ensemble of stories that have all reached their climax of grief, depression, and depravity, and wraps them all up (and the audience) in a type of otherworldly bizarreness that acts as a shared disbelief for us all. It's a biblical plague promised by God in the bible (Exodus 8:2, referenced throughout the film) that felt to me at the time an almost optimistic relief valve. Just at that moment everyone is about to burst, suddenly so do the heavens.

It felt oddly joyous to me. Like no matter how awful things get for us in this experience, it can get even worse—or in some strange way, experiencing the power of something far greater than self (God/Nature) can perhaps bring about some level of relief, or at least respite.

This is hands down the best explanation that I have ever read regarding the end of Magnolia. While I am in love with the movie, I(and PTA apparently) feel that it is too long. If they were to trim the opening and get rid of quiz-kid Donnie's(as much as I like it) storyline the film would be MUCH stronger. People would have hailed Cruise's performance way more and the frog sequence might have been more appreciated for the semi-mystery that it was.

Last night I revisited Into The Wild (2007) directed by Sean Penn which is based on a True Story. Its great adaptation of Jon Krakauer's 1996 book about Christopher McCandless who after graduating from college abandons his possessions, gives away all his money to charity, and decides to hitchhike across america for 2 years, and ends up in Alaska to experience living in the wilderness. Along the way, he encounters a series of characters who shape his life and his decision to return to society....but an error of judgment results in tragedy. I loved the film it was both moving and tragic, and it's the best film Sean has ever directed. The cast is great, the soundtrack is superb and cinematography is beautiful. I give it 5 out 5 popcorn

Ben-Hur (2016)

More was definitely less with this film. I loved Jack Huston in Boardwalk Empire and Silver Linings Playbook, so I have this one a chance. An exciting main sequence, but it played out like a made-for-TV flick otherwise. More blood and guts, but less heart and soul.

I watched "Fargo" last night. Besides the fact that sideways prince was (not) in it, this is an awesome movie!

I thought about trying to write this in the same speaking pattern the characters use, but I can't do it. Ya know? You betcha! Good gosh, you're probably thinking of Sarah Palin right now and I am supremely sorry for that. Let me at least give you a sexy Sarah Palin to think about:

I could go on and on about how cool "Fargo" is but let's be honest - you guys are all thinking about what you'd do to Sexy Photoshopped Sarah Palin, and you aren't going to pay attention to another word I write. Therefore:

I rate "Fargo" star star star star 1/2. Great movie!

i'll give it a strong 'meh'...definitely one of woody's weakest efforts. bland story, bland cast, bland acting...it was sure pretty to look at, but not worth the time or the slog of the plot. probably not helped by the fact that, in the past couple of weeks i watched, 'crimes and misdemeanors' and 'irrational man'; so my hopes might have been a little elevated. eisenberg is a decent enough stand-in for woody allen.

Great movie!

whos body IS this?

In honor of Gene Wilder, Foxtel screened some of his films last night as a tribute to this comic legend worship and I watched them all nuts lol so here is my ratings;

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971) 5 out of 5 and I also love the soundtrack music

Blazing Saddles (1974) 4.5 out of 5

The Lady in Red (1984) 4 out of 5

See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) 3.5 out of 5

My all time fav is Young Frankinstein (1974) 5 out of 5 popcorn followed by a tie between Willy Wonka and The Producers (1967) these are the films that I have watched so many times on tv, even though I have them on dvd. So if I had to recommend 1 film of Gene Wilder to watch right now, its Young Frankinstein because its everything I look for in a comedy; a great story, an amazing cast, a memorable soundtrack and incredible dance number lol
