Rate The Last Movie You Watched

Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)

The lead trio (Langer, Garcia, Luna) are really good. Interesting, funny, bittersweet film.

Love, love, love this movie! I first saw it in the theatre back in 2001 and have it on dvd. It's such a cute, well-done movie. So nice to see Garcia still making movies now.

This weekend I watched "Stripes". Talk about a movie that holds up! It's as funny now as it was in 1981. In fact, I rate "Stripes" as one of my Top Five Movies of All Time. The RodeoSchro Top Five Movies of All Time List:

1. Animal House
2. Caddyshack
3. Stripes
4. All Rocky, Rambo and Arnold movies (except, of course, "Kindergarten Cop")
5. This is Spinal Tap

You can't go wrong with that list!

The thing that I noticed about "Stripes" in this watching was just how perfect Bill Murray's comedy timing is. Holy smokes, he just nails everything. And I'm pretty sure a good portion of it was improvised. You can tell in his big speech before the "That's a fact, Jack!" performance that he's literally grabbing stuff out of thin air. It's comedic genius.

As is everything about the movie. For instance, casting. IMO casting directors don't get nearly enough credit. But every supporting actor in this film is PERFECT. The great Warren Oates - awesome. All the soldiers. It's easy to focus on John Candy, but how about the guys that played Francis (Conrad Dunn), Captain Stillman (Dan Larroquette), Cruiser (John Diehl), and most of the mud wrestlers including the emcee, SCTV's's Dave Thomas (wearing an awesome silk disco shirt!)? In fact, did you know Timothy Busfield from the horrid 90's TV series "ThirtySomething" was the soldier that fired the mortar that blew up the stand Sgt. Hulka was standing on? He was! And if you're REALLY sharp, you'll see that one of the Soldiers was none other than Bill Paxton. That man has gone on to much success but on his tombstone, I bet it will say "I was in 'Stripes!'" Also, it could say - and this is no joke - "I learned to speak German for my part in Pat Benatar's 'Shadows of the Night' video!" Who the heck leans a language for a music video?!? People are awesome! And ZOMG, none other than Dennis Quaid - yes, THE Dennis Quaid! - was an extra at the graduation! So let's hear it for the casting director, Karen Rea!

If someone knows Karen Rea, tell her about this incredible review. I Googled her and you talk about someone with no presence on the internet! Her IMDB page doesn't even list what she worked on, other than she got nominated for a daytime Emmy back in 2008 for her work on "The Young and the Restless" (she didn't win, which I am sure was a travesty).

I've spent the last hour trying to find out stuff on Karen Rea. You talk about a low profile! Here's what I found:

-She was the casting director on "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", which has William Sadler as The Grim Reaper
-She casted Sadler on "Tales From the Crypt". Sadler describes this as THE pivotal moment in his career (read this fascinating interview here: http://www.thehollywoodne...ew-111709/ )
-She was the casting director on "Ghostbuster" Ghostbusters! She did that!
-She was the casting director for "Action Jackson". Z...O...M...G! As faithful readers of mine know, "Action Jackson" was one of the Holy Triumvirate of Action Movies That Featured Cool Character Actor Dudes (the other two are "Die Hard" and "Big Trouble in Little China"). SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING ROBERT DAVI, AL LEONG AND VANITY IN THIS MOVIE! A Prince connection!!!!! How is this woman not a living legend?!?!?!?!?

She will be, if I have my way!

You know what? When I started fprming this review in my mind, I thought it would center around the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle. This was a modified GMC Palm Beach Motorhome. We've owned 5 or 6 of these over the years. Best motorhome we've ever owned! But after I fell down the Karen Rea rabbit hole, my stories of sliding down the mountain at Santa Fe in an EM-50 don't seem as captivating. Maybe another time.

"Stripes" is just Americana history. You HAVE to watch this movie. And then, after I find out how to reach Karen Rea, you HAVE to send her a note telling her how much you appreciate her genius, and her six-degrees-of-separation Prince connection. Maybe she has some cool Vanity stories!

I rate "Stripes" as Five Karen Rea is a Legend out of Five Karen Rea is a Legends. But what else would you expect from a Karen Rea film that is on my Top Five Movies of All Time list?

Not a bad list but I actually quite like Kindergarten Cop.

But anyway, funny that you should mention Caddyshack, I just watched it last night. I was watching Rodney Dangerfield clips on YouTube and it put me in the mood for some Caddyshack. Brilliant movie. Absolutely hilarious. Along with Ghostbusters and Trading Places, it's one of the best comedy movies ever made. Nothing in the last 20 years has even come close.

To be honest, I've never watched all of "Kindergarten Cop" and I should have inserted "Jingle All the Way" instead. Brain fart, sorry.

Rodney Dangerfield was so funny. It's hard for me to believe that he was never given a voting membership in the Screen Actors Guild because those yahoos didn't think he was actually an actor. He got no respect, no respect I tells ya!

Oh, I know he got no respect. I heard that once, he looked up his family tree and found out that he was the sap.

I didn't mind Jingle All The Way either, if only for the novelty of seeing the Terminator knock out a reindeer. smile

Under The Cherry Moon (1986)

I think this movie has been unfairly maligned because most people want to see Prince singing and performing on screen like he did in Purple Rain, not goofing around in this black & white homage to 1930s' romantic comedies. Prince can be a funny guy and this movie shows off that side of him well. It's a must-see at least once for all Prince fans. 3.5/5

Life (2015) about the friendship of James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock who shot some of the most iconic photos of the actor in 1955 for Life magazine.

I have this photo as a poster on my wall in my study lol

On a positive Robert Pattinson was pretty good as Stock, compared to other roles where he is just plain wooden, and Ben Kingsley as Jack Warner was great. However, I wasn't feeling Dane DeHaan as Dean who seem miscast. He was too pudgy and too self aware plus his Dean hair style wasn't accurate (I know I'm being picky, but being a huge Dean fan I care about the details.....eg. James Franco was perfect in 2001 James Dean film and his hair and mannerisms were on point!).

I give this film a 2.5 out of 5popcorn

On a side note my all-time fav James Dean film is East of Eden 1955 (its also my fav Kazan film after A Streetcar Named Desire 1951) and the ending gets me bawl every time "oh Cal" 5 out of 5 popcorn

Catching Hell: Starring Ryan Phillippe in his Directorial debut
(2 stars-fair)

Some Inde films are good and some are bad..Ryan plays a Hollywood screenwriter who gets kidnapped by his coworker's Crazy Boyfriend. The Casting director cast the right actors but the plot is something you'd expect to see on Lifetime..Ryan co-wrote the screenplay and he's not very creative. He needs to bring-it or let it go. It's obvious he Loves showing his Butt in his films..

Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall (2016) - A look at the life of the late pop star Michael Jackson from his early days at Motown Records to the release of his hit 1979 album, Off the Wall.

The archival performance footage is great. The choice of some of the celebrities interviewed is questionable though (I'm looking at you Kobe Bryant). 3.5/5

It's a great film, the final is quite bittersweet.

I saw The Witch and i really like it, although the ending wasn't that great, quite disturbing. I had a nightmare that night. a female voice whisper in my ear, something like "ehrr", i ran into my mom's bed. sad

Well, it's finally happened. I watched the worst movie ever made. There's no possible way I can imagine any movie being worse. God help us all if there is a worse movie than:

People, this is just bad. Now, I'm all for great camp. One of my favorite movies of all time is "Schlock". It's awesome! And awesomely bad! But this?

Wow. It's just bad. Like, un-talented bad. Like, no-one-had-ever-used-a-camera-before bad. Like, editing-?-what-is-that-and-why-should-we-bother-with-it-and-come-to-think-of-it-we-won't-bother-with-it bad.

You know what one of my favorite memes is? It's this:

Why is this relevant, you ask? (No, go ahead. Ask out loud, "Why is this relevant?" You'll feel better, trust me.) Here's a hint: It took one man to write "Star Wars".

But not only is "Class of Nuke 'Em High" the worst movie ever made, the worst movie ever filmed, the worst movie ever edited, the worst movie ever sound-tracked, but it's also the worst movie ever written - AND IT TOOK FOUR GUYS TO WRITE IT AND ONE OTHER GUY TO CONTRIBUTE ADDITIONAL MATERIAL.

How can there be FIVE guys in the world this untalented? Stay tuned, I'm going to blow your mind.

Because there was a sequel. It was called "Class of Nuke 'Em High 2 - Subhumanoid Meltdown". And it took SIX guys to write it. But wait, there's more!

There was another sequel called "Class of Nuke 'Em High 3 - The Good, the Bad, and the Subhumanoid". And that one took SEVEN guys to write (have you noticed that all these crapfests were written by guys? I have).

I watched all of the first movie last night, and about 30 minutes of the second one. While the first one was bad, the second one was campy but not funny. Oh! I watched this on some network called "El Rey"

El Rey? I saw this movie in the onscreen guide - waaaaaay down deep on channel 253 - and figured, "Hmmmm, El Rey? It's probably a Spanish network but maybe this is one of those movies funnier in Spanish". Imagine my surprise when I found out that not only was "El Rey" an English-speaking network, but it focuses on the least-successful movies made by any action star you want to name. You want a Stallone movie? Heck yes, El Rey has your Stallone movie! Except, it's "Cobra". You want Jackie Chan? Sure! Except, it's going to be the first four movies he made that no one ever heard of.

And apparently, you can submit YOUR movie to El Rey and if it's "badass" enough, they will show it.

So there's the challenge! If YOU can make a movie worse than "Class of Nuke 'Em High", there's a place to get it shown! Go for it!

Careful readers have probably noticed I haven't said one thing about the actual content of this movie. That's on purpose. You don't want to see this. I promise, you don't want to see this. And if you don't believe me, then allow me to take 100% of the joy you might think you're going to experience if you DO think about making the mistake of watching this:

The lead actress, Janelle Brady, suffers from mental illness and went missing in the Las Vegas desert in 2012. To this date, there's no word if she's been found, or if she's even alive.

So there. You can't watch this movie now without feeling complete sadness for the female lead. Quit thinking about trying to find the El Rey network and watching this. You can thank me later. But you can send prayers and good thoughts to Janelle Brady and her family right now. I think they need them.

I'm not even going to think of a pithy rating unit for this, because I don't want to give you any reason whatsoever to think about watching this movie. Therefore, zero ---- out of five ----.

I just finished "The Hateful 8". Very stupid and very boring movie.

Quentin Tarentino is becoming the M. Night Shymalan of this decade. Meh, he probably already is the M. Night Shyamalan of this decade. The dude has been coasting on "Pulp Fiction" for about 20 years now.

When I started watching this movie, my daughter's boyfriend mentioned it was filmed in Telluride. So I began mentally forming my review around the landing strip in Telluride. It's basically a mesa. If you ever want to know what it's like to land on, or take off of, an aircraft carrier then Telluride is your place. I have a friend who flew in there in his jet one winter, hit some ice, and the jet skidded off the runway and down the mountain. I asked him if he was scared and he said no, he was mad at the pilot because as the jet started skidding the pilot threw up his arms and started yelling "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" instead of trying to do something to lessen the crash. But everybody lived, so that's good.

Anyway, I have lots more cool Telluride stories (or "To-Hell-You-Ride" as we call it) but this movie isn't worth any more stories. Heck, it really wasn't even worth the plane crash story except to give me a rating unit.

"The Hateful 8" gets 1 "Mommy!" out of 5 "Mommy!"'s. The only thing good about this movie are the shots of Telluride, but really - you don't need 168 minutes of them.

Ninja Dragon
Ninja Cop
Malone (with Burt Reynolds)
To The Limit ( with Anna Nicole Smith)
Disaster Movie and all those other modern spoof "movies"
Batman & Robin
Super Mario Bros.

If you think Graffiti Bridge is bad, wait til you see these.

hateful 8 is definitely lesser tarantino, but i think you sell it a little short. it's more about the subtext and homage and/or dismantling of american western cinema tropes than it is its own thing. and any opportunity to hear an ennio morricone soundtrack is a blessing...but, yeah, overall it's too thinky to be great. i read the screenplay when it leaked and loved it. i watched the movie and was hugely disappointed.

highfive

Until I saw "Class of Nuke 'Em High" I thought "Howard the Duck" was the worst movie ever made! And honestly, maybe it really is because it was made by people with actual talent, vs. the B-movie hucksters that made "Class of Nuke 'Em High".

I can see how it would have read well as a book. I've read more than 150 Western novels in the last few years but if this was a novel, I don't think it would have made the top half of my rankings.

The soundtrack wasn't anything for me. Frankly, I'm getting tired of Tarentino's gimmick of trying to make every film look like a '70's drive-in movie flick with his cheesy graphics and obscure songs.

I watched the entire credits, thinking maybe there'd be something I missed. For instance, did the two dudes at the end live, or not? Did 15 more killers show up, or not? Well, I got no answers but instead had to sit through the worst song Roy Orbison ever did.

Just to name a few; Ninja Dragon Ninja Cop Malone (with Burt Reynolds) To The Limit ( with Anna Nicole Smith) Disaster Movie and all those other modern spoof "movies" Batman & Robin Super Mario Bros. If you think Graffiti Bridge is bad, wait til you see these.

I think your list are not the best nor the worst, but somewhere in between and on the top of boring movie list. Where as GB is a WTF just happenend.?

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I just watched The Girl Can't Help It (1956) starring Jayne Mansfield, Tom Ewell (who also was lucky enough to work with Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch 1955 and Judy Holliday in Adam's Rib 1949) Edmond O'Brien and featuring Little Richard, Julie London, Fats Domino, The Platters, Ray Anthony, Gene Vincent and the amazing Abbey Lincoln worship . It about a Gangster who hires down-and-out press agent to make his blonde bimbo girlfriend a singing sensation, and was directed by the legendary Frank Tashlin who also directed Jayne and her future hubby Mickey Hargitay (the parents of Mariska Hargitay on Law & Order SVU woot! ) in the excellent Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957) and my fav Doris Day film The Glass Bottom Boat (1966). Watch this John Water's review because it pretty much sums up this film, and why it's so enjoyable to watch and iconic https://www.youtube.com/w...n3vyvEPgOw I give it 5 out of 5 popcorn A funny movie with an totally awesome soundtrack thumbs up! and yes I loved those sparkly curtains too lol

Last movie I watched was ghostbusters. Well, not the real Ghostbusters. The new movie, that is also called Ghostbusters. When it was first announced, I thought it was a bit strange that they were making ALL of the team female. It felt like somebody was trying to make a point. Rather than concentrate on making a good movie that could stand up against the original they were turning it into some sort of gender politics thing.
Anyway, I was still hyped for it because I grew up on the Ghostbusters and even though this wouldn't have the original cast, I still hoped it would be good. Then I seen who was cast... I was VERY disappointed. Not one of the main cast has ever done anything I thought was funny and the best thing Paul Feig ever did was appear as a teacher in Sabrina the teenage witch. I still hoped it would be good.
Then I saw the trailers. Its fair to say my enthusiasm was severely dampened by them. I decided there and then I wouldn't see the movie but last night my cousin came home with a pirate DVD she got from someone she works with. So we watched it and my God, it's bad. Completely unfunny, it's like that movie Pixels, only worse, if you can believe it. Not even the cameos from the original cast hit the mark. They just come across as desperate. The theme song is sickeningly bad too. Its not just not funny, it's also poorly made. It looks more like a sitcom the way characters constantly face the camera when speaking to each other. And the editing, my God the editing...
The one non terrible thing is Chris Hemsworth. He was ok but it's one joke stretched far too thin.

If you're going to the cinema this week, I'll tell you who NOT to call.

Difret 4/5 one of those foreign independent films, so not a big budget but a very engaging story. A tough one still going on in too many places around the world. I cried a many tear for the poor girl, cheered too.

Independence Day: The Resurgence. I rate it a soft meh. Didn't hate it and didn't love it. If you like more spacey sci fi films, you may like it. If you're expecting anything even somewhat similar to the original, you will be disappointed.
Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

We just watched "Seven Years In Tibet" (recorded from film 4)

I liked it... the cinematography was beautiful - and Brad Pitt's accent was to die for!!!

Anything with David (Naked) Thewlis is always worth a peek (married my teenage crush Anna Friel razz )

Oh...and then she started watching Magic Mike...after seeing Olivia Munn's tits...I came onto the.org biggrin
