Sad day. RIP Buddy Ryan, Pat Summitt

This is a sad day, as two sports legends have left us on the same day, though we saw this coming eventually.

Former Head coach and defensive guru Buddy Ryan dies at age 85.

Buddy Ryan, the influential defensive coordinator for the 1985 NFL Champion Chicago Bears and later head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, died today after a long bout with cancer and post-stroke illnesses.

Ryan was known for his "46" defense, whihc used lots of blitzes to overwhelm opposing offenses.

Pat Summitt, the winningest coach ln Divsion I women's college basketball, died today after a long bout with dementia. Summitt led the Lady Vols to 1,098 victories -- the most in Division I college basketball history (men or women) -- and eight national championships before stepping down in 2012, one year after announcing she had early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type.

Pat Summit was clearly more accomplished..

Buddy was a great d-coordinator & trash-talker.

as a head coach - not so much.

.

I am a long-time (& LONG-SUFFERING) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES FAN

& I became 1 back when they started putting RANDAL CUNNINGHAM in the game

when it was like "3rd & 45"..

.

those Buddy Ryan defenses in Philadelphia were AWESOME.

the best we ever had.

ALL THAT TALENT - not

1

ring to show for it.

.

the NFL obviously was very different then

than it is now..

I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
