Microsoft: For Those Who Want to Stay With Win 7

Microsoft Windows 10: Last day for "free" Windows 10 OS, July 29, 2016.

Microsoft an assholes for forcing or tricking unsuspecting computer users to download Microsoft 10. If you like Win 10 that's cool but this thread are for those who wish to stay with Windows 7 OS.

A. The latest trick, Microsoft's appears to give you no option to not accepted Windows 10, the option is along these lines. Windows 10: Upgrade Now or Update Later.

B. In most instances you would simple click X to close the window. Now if you click X, you will download Windows 10. Beware read everything on the page and you see in small print an option to close.

You have two options to keep Windows 10 from downloading to your computer.

Never10: https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

OR

GWX: http://blog.ultimateoutsi...emove.html

"Never 10" is straightforward for novices to setup but both pieces of free software get the job done. Automatic updates shouldn't be checked; if need be at least click, upload crucial or important updates only. You should have a full back up of Windows 7 / 8.1 OS and files, just encase, backup, backup, please backup. biggrin I'd also shutdown my computer after use.

Linux Pre- loaded: http://linuxpreloaded.com

P.S. Here's a Petition to protest the way over-the-line tactics of pushing people to download Microsoft 10. https://www.change.org/p/...windows-10

GWX: http://blog.ultimateoutsi...emove.html

I accidentally deleted the GWX link. kpowers, since you "stopped" Windows 10 download in progress. You'll need to use the GWX software to remove the ruminates of Win 10 that downloaded to your computer... it will also block future attempts.

I'd also caution, don't believe Microsoft compatibility test for your Win 7 or 8 computers. Windows 10 is a huge OS and it doesn't work on all computer hardware. A word of caution, again have a full backup of your Windows 7 / 8.1 OS encase Win 10 doesn't work well with your computer's hardware.

Everyone should download Never 10 or GWX... its not a matter of if but when Windows 10 will be download to your computer whether you agree or not. This is shitty but that's what Microsoft has become. mad

i actually had a bit of an issue with my computer after this 'update' trapped me. i failed to screen the updates thoroughly and just said "yeah download them all" and the next thing i knew i was having 'connectivity issues" apparently due to windows 10 install thingy got on my unit.

.

when i checked with my internet provider, i was told that windows 10 has not only affected the connectivity of those using that provider's service (i.e., a common complaint), but windows ten has been clocked accessing users' email accounts set up through that provider. CenturyLink told me that their clients' private email accounts have been breached by Windows 10 install units that appear to log their email usage. truly scary eek

These are the type of issues many or having...

Just my humble opinion, Microsoft's behavior should give us pause... how they'll possibly treat their customers hence forth. Microsoft failed to mention, Win 10 spy-ware has to be disabled, 13 pages of disabling. Telemetry starts immediately after the Windows 10 is upgrade/ downloaded. In many respects, disabling 13 pages of Telemetry / spy-war after Windows 10 downloads, is like closing the barn door after the horses have fled.

  • Samsung has advised their computer owners not to install Windows 10... driver issues.
  • You have 30 days to change your mind and go back to Windows 7 or 8.1.
  • All you need to do is click Start and launch Settings. Go to Update and Security and click Recovery on the left. You’ll see the option to Go back to Windows 7 or Go back to Windows 8.1 (depending on which version of Windows you had before). Click on Get Started and follow the instructions.

i ultimately restored my system back to windows 8, which works well for me. so i have no issues right now, but i feel like i've really put quite a bit of time and energy into defending against unwanted changes being made to my computer by windows. i guess it's a matter of screening the 'updates' carefully. i really think my next computers will be Macs

That's good to hear because some folks have had to send their to computer techs to get back to Win 7 / 8.1; in some instances data had been lost and couldn't be recovered.

I've been deleting, hiding. and uninstalling Windows 10 and its Telemetry on my family and friends computers for a year. Every time Microsoft would un-hide or re-install Win 10's software in updates or change the update(s) number. I've shut down all updates and shutdown my PC until the July 29 deadline for "free" Windows 10. I'm done with Microsoft after Windows 7 dies.... Apple and Linux hence forth.

Linux Pre- loaded: http://linuxpreloaded.com

I've purchased computers from these Linux vendors. For those who don't want to configure their own Linux-box, its been done for you. Three options to meet all price points and budgets.

  1. ZaReason
  2. Los Alamos - http://laclinux.com/en/Laptop
  3. Mi-Refurb - http://www.mirefurb.com/p...-computers

I will have my YouTube station up my Sep. 2016. Family emergencies have kept me away from home, but this too shall pass. smile

Remember people, backup your OS and all your data.

Out of curiosity - what's the download size of Win10? i.e. how many GBs?

Cool. Why don't we get ya started and help you and all...? smile Why don't you start by telling us - what you DO with your computer....

and number two) what you WANT to do with your computer.....? (like, maybe something you've always wanted to try, but you were put off by the intimidation of trying something new, or the cost of the software, or whatever..?)

This is not just an altruistic message, I'm specifically concerned with how humans use computers, and how this experience can be made better - to wit, how to increase Linux' market share.....we still have only about 2%, at least in home use, y'know.... sad (although I have no idea whether the Linux user interface people are dying to hear my ideas or not.... smile )

I ended up downloading GWX after searching how to remove that stupid button on my taskbar telling me to get Windows 10. I'm surprised so many 7 users can just ignore it. It sticks out like a diamond in a goat's ass.

as long as it's stable and doesn't crash pray i'm good to go. i usually just work with whatever i can find. lol

.

but now that windows 10's capabilities have changed in such an intriguing fashion i hesitate to use microsoft windows' products in general going forward.

.

which pisses me off, as i've been investing in windows products for more then twenty years and now i have to switch my strategy and approach.

.

meaning, i'll have to try to bang a few more computer facts into my head and see if i can manage the switch to linux on my own. sometimes when i try things like this i only get so far before i have to take the computer in to have professionals repair compelte the job... lol sigh lol

oh okay, i see.

i read your other thread about computer products, and decided not to respond over there because i really do not know much about computers.

.

for me, my computer use has always been trial and error. so, no actual training. i use YouTube quite a bit to figure out how to troubleshoot computer issues. thumbs up!

.

i think i want to switch to Linux or even install it side-by-side with windows. clearly i need to spend time looking into Linux over at YouTube and get the basics before i come back here so i can at least fake a cogent conversation on the subject falloff brb redface

We should give some suggestion.

Linux Mint or Distributions, Distro's for short . cool 32 / 64bit

Cinnamon

KDE *

Mate'

xfce

Ubunut Distro's

Unity *

Ubuntu Mate'

lubuntu

Xubuntu

* Advance users

These Linux Disto's are a lot like Windows, what I mean, they're computer interfaces is very similiar to Windows 95 -7... the learning curve (where everything is like documents, pictures... applications) for understanding where everything is -- is a no brainer.

Linux Mint 17.3 Rosia Review: I too use Mate' as well.

I'm actually going to look into computers where Linux is pre-installed. And I find the Linux program where you can use Linux while having Windows in a "box" really interesting. I am determined now to free myself from the eventuality of Windows 10, which I want no part of. I'll have to learn an entirely new thang...which I'm resistant to. I'm still using MS Office 2003 for fu%*'s sake. LOL

It's unlikely that you'll have to learn too much new - as TD said, the interfaces are very similar to what you're used to..... Btw, Win in a "box" may take some umm..... effort and time - you'll have to prolly install VMWare or VirtualBox, and install Win *inside* it - if you have installed Win before, it's probably OK, but if you haven't, maybe you should ask around for a little bit of help or somethin'..... jus sayin.

Btw, these softwares which do this are, IMO, quite incredible, technically - if you use em and like em, drop the maker a line and say "well done", won't you....? smile
