Overview

The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts I & II (Special Rehearsal Edition): The Official Script Book of the Original West End Production is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

hmmm We'll see how it turns out. These things don't always translate well to the stage.

'HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD' PLAY REVEALS FAMILY PHOTO: SEE GROWN-UP GINNY & HARRY

J.K. Rowling loves her the actor playing the adult Boy Who Lived

.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a two-part stage play sequel to the series' seventh novel, starts its West End previews in a week. (Its script's being published for all to read on July 31.) To stir the hype up right, today we've got a photo, above, of adult Harry and Ginny and their young son Albus Severus Potter. They're played by Jamie Parker, Poppy Miller and Sam Clemmett, respectively.

"[Parker] simply is Harry now," says J.K. Rowling, who was a collaborator on the play but did not write the script; that was Jack Thorne. "There's a kind of relief in watching [Parker], he gets it so right."

.

No sign of Ron or Hermione yet. The Cursed Child aroused conversation in December '15 for flipping Hermoninny's race with a black actress, Noma Dumezweni, and nixing Won-Won's trademark red hair.

Also new: Harry's suit. Here's what Parker had to say about the look:

"He’s wearing a suit because he’s a Ministry [of Magic] man, but he’s not just a bloke in a suit, that’s way too anonymous. And it sounds strange but we talked around a lot of different suits, because there are suits and suits, and a lot of them we put on and we went 'Mmm it’s just not right.' With all the character’s costumes we want them to be instantly familiar when people see them, so that people feel like the story’s safe in our hands, and that we’re taking that responsibility seriously. ... These are stories that people have lived with for their whole lives, they’ve grown up with and now they’re adults re-joining the tale, picking it up where they left off and I’m one of them. ... And we were all very keen to make sure that the first time you see Harry it just feels right.’

.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows The Boy Who Lived as an overworked adult and father to three Hogwarts students. "While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs," reads one official description, "his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted."

SEE 'HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD'S' DRACO MALFOY AND HIS SON SCORPIUS

Anthony Boyle and Alex Price bring the menacing characters to life
June 2, 2016

We've already seen Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's Ginny and Harry Potter (along with their son Albus Severus), as well as the adorable-looking Granger-Weasley family. Now, the stage play sequel to Deathly Hallows has revealed the first look at the menacing father-son act: Draco and Scorpius Malfoy.

Alex Price (Merlin, Penny Dreadful, Doctor Who) plays the role of Draco, Harry's longtime nemesis, while Anthony Boyle portrays his son Scorpius. Check out their individual portraits below:

'...Our first job is to serve this play and J.K. Rowling’s characters as best we can' - @alexpriceactor

Boyle, who was trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, said this about transforming into the white-blonde Scorpius:

"It was such a game changer. As soon as I saw it, it was like, 'Okay, I’m playing Scorpius Malfoy—this is real now.' That was such a big moment. He’s wearing the official Hogwarts uniform before you go and get sorted into your house. He’s a Malfoy so his clothes should be really expensive but quite constraining to make him feel a bit awkward."

J.K. Rowling also hinted that his character will be a charmer to the ladies: "I've got a feeling Scorpius is going to do nothing to turn girls off the Malfoy men." Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's script will be released via Scholastic worldwide on July 31.

and now there is a big to-do about the fact that a black actress was cast in the role of hermione granger:

.

from: http://www.aol.com/articl.../21389809/

.

JK Rowling calls out 'a bunch of racists' who complained about black Hermoine

.

As the London stage play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" prepares to open in less than two months, author JK Rowling stands behind the decision to cast a black woman in the role of Hermoine, calling online detractors "a bunch of racists."

.

The role of an adult Hermoine was given to award-winning actress Noma Dumezweni, who an Olivier Award for excellence in stage acting.

.

"With my experience of social media, I thought that idiots were going to idiot," Rowling told the Observer (via The Guardian). "But what can you say? That's the way the world is. Noma was chosen because she was the best actress for the job."

.

The author, who created the story for the play, has made it clear that she didn't write Hermoine with a skin color in mind.

.

"I had a bunch of racists telling me that because Hermione 'turned white' – that is, lost colour from her face after a shock – that she must be a white woman, which I have a great deal of difficulty with," said Rowling. "But I decided not to get too agitated about it and simply state quite firmly that Hermione can be a black woman with my absolute blessing and enthusiasm."

.

The play, set to open July 30 at the Palace Theatre, is broken up into two parts. Written by Jack Thorne, it's based on a story by Rowling about Potter in adulthood.

.

The play's director John Tiffany made the final call on casting Dumezweni. "I am not as Twitter-familiar as [Rowling] and Jack, so I hadn't encountered its dark side, which is just awful," said Tiffany. "But what shocked me was the way people couldn't visualise a non-white person as the hero of a story. It's therefore brilliant that this has happened."

.

The plot revolves around a grownup Potter, who is an "overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children." His youngest son Albus never wanted to inherit his family's legacy as he and his dad are confronted with darkness from unexpected places.

.

It has already sold a record-breaking 175,000 tickets in the first 24 hours pre-sales were made available.

.

Audiences were treated to preview performances last week and were told to arrive an hour early and had their bags searched for any recording devices.
