Sounds good but....I didn´t even know that HBO already aired that seven hour long version.

Is that available on DVD?

Has anyone here on the org seen it?

I have seen the four hour long "The Godfather Saga" version but I simply can´t even imagine a seven hour version. What is it about? I mean, how much can you stretch that story using outtakes without completely changing the storyline?

I didn't even know they had a seven hour version. I would love to binge watch it over a weekend. I just have the trilogy with special features on DVD that came out years ago... The seven hour version doesn't seem to be available on DVD/Blueray yet.

I tolerate it because it's Al Pacino as THE GODFATHER! But, it is not a good film and I would have preferred it not to be made. Al Pacino seemed more like a caricature of his character in it; more like his performance in Scarface.

I actually think he was pretty decent in it. And I happen to be the only person on this planet who likes The Godfather III. I mean, at least it gives the story an ending, some sort of closure, and I love that scene of him sitting on that chair and dying. That is really profound, or maybe not profound but I often think about that scene, and I often think of that wedding scene in part II where he marries Apollonia.

People hate Sophia Coppolla for her acting skills but I didn´t really mind her in that movie.

Well, I have to temper my comments on it because I do watch it occasionally--just because I love the characters from I and II so much. But I don't have the fondness for it as much as I do Scarface, which is a wonderful campy 80s over-the-top flick to watch. If you enjoy Godfather III, continue to enjoy it! Who cares what the critics think! Scarface is bad, but I love it!

It´s a shame that Hagen is missing in part III.

I love to watch Scarface as well....it´s old, I know almost every line by heart, but I still love watching it. Though I don´t understand why it became such a huge phenomenon in the late 90s, early 00s. The constant sampling by Jay-Z and other rappers and the quotes and posters kind of ruined it for me. It´s overkill.

I liked how even Prince quoted Scarface.

I put on the Godfather epic as background noise and visuals while I work. But even after the whole thing... i'm not done with this animation! I haven't had really had good sleep in a month.

I thought the saga version was long but then again that was a mix of parts I and II.

Actually the Godfather Epic is old, it was shown in two or three parts on network television in the 80's and even was put on VHS and Beta back then. I remember me and my friends taped it. It was a big deal because Coppolla assisted the networks in the experiement by supervising the edit and restoring scnees previously cut out.

Yes it was called the Godfather Saga... 434 minutes ( over 7 hours) just not in HD. Released November 1977 as a miniseries.

So I listened to the song and drew up what I wanted to see as sketches. Then I had this illustrator draw things to my specification. It's funny, I've never met or even seen him. He's not on Facebook, and the museum put me in touch. He would draw different things on paper and then scan them and email them to me. I took it from there and put them together into compositions, then animated them, then added color and special effects. Last night I added subtle sound effects.

I saw it on HBO when it aired earlier this year. Here's the breakdown:

The Godfather Epic (HBO, 2016): Uncut full versions of The Godfather I & II shown in chronological order (Vito's childhood and rise in the underworld from Godfather II; the Corleone men as adults assisting the older Vito from Godfather I; Michael Corleone's reign of power as head of the family post Vito's death from Godfather II) WITHOUT deleted scenes.

The Godfather Saga (TV version/miniseries from 1977): Cut/edited versions of The Godfather I & II shown in chronological order, WITH deleted scenes.

So I'm not too sure what the point was of this newly 7 hour version on HBO. The only great thing was that it wasn't a cut version with commercials. The only thing that would have made it truly EPIC is to have included the deleted scenes. Now if you can get me that, slap it on DVD and mail to me. I'll pay. The only other collection that includes the special edition with ALL of the deleted scenes (not incorporated into the actual movie though) from both Godfather I & II is the three movie collection that was in stores around 2000 or 2001 I believe which is when I purchased it. Some stores may still sell it right now, but I don't see it often.

Well Andy Garcia (Vincenzo) was excellent just as Al Pacino, no question, however, I think it was overkill. It's intriguing though because its interesting seeing an element of Sonny incorporated into the storyline, years after his brutal murder. Garcia did an excellent job of channeling this as being Sonny's illegitmate son and perhaps surrogate son to Michael. It's a shame they couldn't get it together for Robert Duvall to be included. Also, they focused entirely too much on the incestuous relationship between Michael's daughter, Mary and Vincenzo. I really liked that we got to see an older, wiser and perhaps more human version of Michael Corleone. His character in III was sharply different than in I & II where he seemed like a stoic, cold, yet fiercely strategic and cunning businessman/criminal leader. In III, he was much more emotional and vulnerable than we'd ever seen and we even see him using profane language for the first time too. In the first two, it seemed that he was much too patient, calm and collected to have to "go that far" but in III he seemed a bit impatient, extremely regretful and dare I say, a little desperate (to hold on to his power). Shame that he died alone. I always hate that part.

The epic with it´s 7 hours sounds like the ultimate, unedited, longest version. WITHOUT deleted scenes.

The saga has edited scenes....so it´s shorter than the epic.

I better get the epic then.

I read a while back that it was all over money...they didn't want to pay Duvall the money he wanted in order to appear in III so he opted out.
