I think the show is not that bad at all. Not as great as TWD of course but episode 1 of this new season was pretty good ,and Strand and that Latin man played by Ruben Blades are both badass and interesting, and then there´s his very likeable and cute daughter. I still can´t remember the names of the characters though, and yes, they are not very charismatic, especially the wife of that teacher. The teacher/father is aight I guess. I don´t expect a highschool English literature teacher to be very exciting or badass although I know a certain highschool English teacher who is very charismatic and badass - Though this show is not as good as TWD it is still very enjoyable and I think it is picking up pace now...slowly but surely. And it´s interesting to see other parts of the USA during the zombie apocalypse for a change and not just the green and brown and swampish countryside of Georgia. I love TWD and its character development and action but the fact that we get to see or know very little of what´s happening outside of Georgia is a bit strange, though understandable as far as mobility and telecommunication are concerned. . One thing that really surprises me though is this....how can both shows be made by the same creators, and yet there´s one show that is so incredibly popular while the spin-off is met with lukewarm reactions? I mean, it´s like having the same team of chefs working at two different restaurants and at one place they create magic in the kitchen and cook interesting food, and at the other restaurant they serve bland and boring food? - Anyway, a semi-good zombie tv show that needs some time to get interesting is still better than a cheap or terrible zombie tv show. Before Fear the Walking Dead was a thing I used to watch that SyFy Channel zombie tv show....can´t even remember the name. It was actually pretty decent for a SyFy low budget production but Fear the Walking Dead is so much better. And I love the fact that Fear is based in California.

I love Madison and Strand... everyone else can become zombie happy meals, and the show could only be improved by it, imo.
That said, I loved season 1, especially episode #3 "The Dog", more than I've liked TWD for a few seasons now.
I'm not as engrossed in season 2. I think, even with the recent invasion, the yacht just makes it feel too safe. There's no huge threat. I hope something happens where they have to leave it for the second half of the season.

I just finished watching Walking Dead 1-6 . and I realized the thing that made it so on the edge of the seat as well so interesting for me . 1.the horror factor isn't present in the current season of Walking Dead 2.the exporitory aspect of the show hasn't been present since they left that barn in season 6, we saw a bit in the 1 off episode focused on. Coming into middle class neighborhoods exploring the houses seeing what happened or what was. Or the city of Atlanta, small towns, isolated houses 3.and we haven't had much background character exporation. Those scenes where they showed pieces of where the people came from or experienced before getting with the group . I think this is the kind of stuff that would make Fear the Walking Dead more interesting, and then we would see the characters in a different light. I think that is one reason even Alex is already so interesting. Just seeing her on the plane and that experience. She seems like she has a story even before the plane already.

Yes, this is part of the problem of being on the boat, the lack of exploration and constant threat. Season 1 was very much in the middle of it, we even had Madison secretly venturing outside the safe zone (I do wish there'd been more of that though). In season 2 all we get are very brief periods on land and not always with a lot of threat to it - especially now that Nick just covers himself in guts to get by...
Alex is interesting but her character is very murky, so far. My impression is that Madison has more to her story that we haven't seen, as well.
