Batman V Superman (spoilers)

Just back from seeing the movie and I have to say, while its far from perfect, I liked it. Ben Affleck is my new favourite Batman. I think he will really prove a lot of doubters wrong. A lot has been made of him killing people and I don't read the comics but I've heard it said that it's something he doesn't do, but for the purposes of the film, it works. Also, it's said that this version of Batman has been around for 20 years and is grieving the loss of Robin so maybe the non killing thing is something he tried, but just didn't work out. Alfred (BEST ALFRED EVER) has a line in the movie about Bruce Wayne turning cruel when referring to him "branding" the villains but maybe he's also referring to Batman killing his enemies.

Wonder Woman was ok, it felt a bit tacked on and I don't think it would have made a difference to the movie had she not been in it. But they have to lay the foundation for The Justice League somehow, so I suppose she serves her purpose. Likewise, the cameos from the other Justice League members. Didn't really add much but I liked the Flash (in full costume) seemingly sending a message to Bruce Wayne from the future. That was kind of trippy.

Superman is ok too. I'm still not sold on Henry Cavill but he was ok. Lois Lane seems only to be in the movie so Superman has someone to save.

The worst thing about the movie for me was Lex Luthor. Its like Jesse Eisennerd didn't know what way to play the character so he went all out nuts one minute and seemed to be a criminal mastermind the next.

The pacing of the movie seemed a bit off as well. I can't quite put my finger on it but it didn't flow particularly well. Maybe that's something that will be rectified with the directors cut DVD, which will add in an extra 30 minutes and bring up the age rating to R.

Overall though, it was good. Better than Man of Steel but it makes me look forward to the next standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie more than The Justice League, which I'm guessing was not their intention.

The best acting job I saw Ben Affleck do was when he performed the title role in the movie biography on George Reeves--the actor who played Superman in the 1950s' TV series. What an irony. lol

He's a LOT better than Christian Bale as Batman. He's much more vicious, scary, intimidating. His Bruce Wayne is better too.

That's funny--my son who was a HUGE fan of the Christian Bale movies is dismissing this one and not gonna see it. Guess I'll have to check it out for myself. wink

Yeah seemed to jump around to much and yes I had a problem with that.

I wonder if the 3 hour directors cut will fix any of those pacing issues? Either way, even with its problems, it's still a good movie. I don't know who Ezra Miller is so I don't know what he'll be like as the Flash but Aquaman looks cool. The Cyborg tease was a bit weird but also cool. I don't know much about the character so that will be a movie I'll have to see. Also, did anyone else notice that Chris Pine was in the old Wonder Woman picture? I only seen him the second time they showed it.

I didn't love the Christian Bale movies and I don't think he was anything special as Batman, my favourite live action Batman has always been Michael Keaton. And I never thought Michael Keaton could be beaten but I have to say, Affleck did it. I'm really looking forward to his solo movie.

I'm guessing that will be from the Wonder Woman movie coming out, Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor. You can always check out Cyborg on the last season of the Super Friends

Haven´t watched it yet but will do so based on your review.

Even without having watched it, I quite like Ben Affleck as Batman (and especially as Bruce Wayne) from what I saw in the trailers. I still strongly dislike Keaton´s Batman (and still like Bale´s Batman) but I really think that Affleck does not deserve all the hate and ridicule he is getting for this movie. Audiences seem to like it whereas critics seem to hate it...but I wouldn´t blame Affleck.

Good to see someone else who likes Ben Affleck as Batman.

I´m actually looking more forward to see the three hour director´s cut than the cinematic release because now that you´ve mentioned the director´s cut the cinematic release no longer feels like "the proper movie" to me....which is often the problem when the director´s cut is longer than the official cinematic release.

Too bad.

I think it's fair to say we can agree to disagree on who was better between Michael Keaton and Christian Bale but I honestly think Ben Affleck was better than both of them. I'm eagerly awaiting his solo Batman movie. I think he's writing and directing it too so it should be really good.

I think the biggest improvement was how Batman voice was done in Batman v Superman than that of the Christopher Nolans Batman movies with Bale. Couldn't stand Chrstian Bale's voice when he was Batman. I think south park teased it with Cartman as the coon. Kevin Conroy was the best Batman.

Affleck is a Batman fan and I like his directing skills and screenplays, so I hope he stays on board despite the negative reviews. I felt really sorry for him when I saw that infamous video that went viral (the one where they play Sounds of Silence). The pressure and expectations on him were enormous and people are having a field day ridiculing him but, like you , I can´t wait for his next Batman film.

Good to hear that you find him better than Bale or Keaton.

How can Christian Bale concentrate on taking on The Joker when he's battling severe laryngitis.

I preferred the scripts with Christian Bale over the ones with Keaton and Kilmer but not the actor himself. His lisp kept throwing me off.

I haven't seen this one yet but I love Ben Affleck. biggrin
