Surprise Cloverfield Sequel

Surprise Trailer for Cloverfield Sequel Released
Janaury 14, 2016

Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions have pulled off one of the best surprises of all time.

A trailer, made to look like a bootleg, has been released for a film called 10 Cloverfield Lane starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher, Jr. and John Goodman.

It IS an unannounced sequel to 2008's found footage monster flick, Cloverfield, which was directed by Matt Reeves and written by Drew Goddard. J.J., you sly dog!

How'd they pull this off? In 2014, Bad Robot and Paramount announced that Dan Trachtenberg (Portal: No Escape) had been hired to direct a post-apocalyptic thriller titled Valencia (aka The Cellar). However, that was a secret title for Cloverfield 2.

"The idea came up a long time ago during production," Paramount told Collider. "We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible."

In the 2008 film, we followed a handful of young New Yorkers at a going-away party that have their lives shockingly turned upside-down when a monster descends upon the city.

As for the sequel, Winstead's character wakes up in a large fallout shelter with two strangers. Goodman's character informs her "the world is over outside because there’s been a nuclear fallout," but she isn't sure if she is being told the truth or not.

10 Cloverfield Lane will land in theaters March 11th!

I went to the theater to see that flick...I think the plot is you never see the Monster...It was stupid...I Love John Goodman in everything but why bother with a part 2?

Seems like an interesting way to do a sequel. I'm glad they ditched the whole found footage thing because I think Cloverfield would have been a lot better had it been shot in a more traditional way.

I loved the first one but this movie has a 5 million dollar budget - compared to Cloverfield which had a already low budget of 25 million.

It's going to be far less the sequel people think it will be. 95% of it takes place in the bunker. It's a thriller not a monster movie.

You don't see a lot of it but there's another shot of it from a helicopter so you get a decent look at it. I doubt very much we'll be seeing any of it in the sequel. Maybe once at the end, if anything.

The viral campaign promoting the original was one of the best I've seen. More interesting than the actual film, in fact. This trailer doesn't stir me, but I'm interested in seeing what buzz is stirred.

i agree, it was hyped...

much like the one for "The Blair Witch Project"

and it too was duddy as all get out...

as a matter of fact, the whole (interestin part) movie

was covered in the trailers...

..LOL...Oh I NEVER walk out of movie...I don't care if I'm on a date, with friends, or Solo...I Pay Mega Bucks @ the concession stand..Buckets of Popcron, Extra-Large Cherry Cokes, Almond M&M's.....I take this VERY seriously....You know how New Yorkers Love going to a broadway show (those who can afford them Damn High tickets)? I treat a Movie the same way....The only Flick I thought about walking out on was Nick cage in "Next"....I Love Nick but that Flick was a mess...He'll take any role for a Check..

Not really a "sequel" in the traditional sense, huh?

This would be more of like a "spin-off"?

Apparently it a "blood relative" of "Cloverfield", whatever that may mean...
The viral marketing for "Cloverfield" was so awesome that the movie suffered...
It would have been cool if they made a movie about the whole "Slusho!" deal or the Japanese experiments and the kid mind controlling the monster in New York... I thought it was also disappointing, and a missed opportunity, that they didn't follow up on the little "The Pearl" easter egg in "Cloverfield" on "Lost"...
