I saw it! I will not say much but the opening shows a retired and out of shape retired Rocky working at the sandwich shop he owns "Balboa Deli"... and this guy comes in complaining about some bad tuna... Rocky tells him "Yo, i told you it smelled funny...." and the guy sees the posters and recognizes him and it goes from there.

Really? I thought he still owned that restaurant that he named after his wife, Adrian?

I haven´t watched this one yet but I definitely want to.

Balboa Deli? I could´ve sworn I saw it as "Adrian´s " in the trailer.

Are you guys watching a different film than the one I did? neutral

I was so underwhelmed. The entire film felt like they were gunning for the nostalgia factor than focusing on bringing out a good story.

Loved Stallone and Phylicia Rashad, but the leading actor was lame as hell.

The whole thing shouldn't be associated with the Rocky legacy. Just another lazy attempt from Hollywood to cash on classics.

Really? Sorry you didn't like the movie.

Yes, Hollywood is definitely lazy with all of the remakes of classic movies, but this one is not one of them. This wasn't a remake, nor did I feel like it was trying to remake any of the Rocky movies at all. I saw it as a completely different movie with characters who originated from the Rocky franchise.

I do have to disagree with you about Michael B. Jordan though, he really is a good actor. I've seen him in other projects where he stood out and he does it again in this movie as well. I felt the story really was good and brought to the screen from a different perspective. For instance, the fact that Adonis didn't start boxing straight from the street, he was raised in the upper class, had (what appeared) to be a promising white collar job and really didn't have to box at all. He already had money. It was a drive and choice he felt from within. Unlike Rocky (and possibly Apollo) he wasn't hungry from being poor on the streets and struggling to survive with nothing to lose, his hunger came from something he had to prove to himself. He reached out for help, kept getting turned down because people thought he was a joke, so why not fly out to Philly and seek out Rocky Balboa? lol I loved how the relationship between Adonis and Balboa grew.

Phylicia Rashad was great, though I felt they stretched it a bit with her storyline. The widow of one of the greatest boxers in the world takes in his illegimate son as the result of an affair and raises him as her own? I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but those things definitely don't happen everyday. It's take a really strong woman to do that. My only gripe with this is that I wished they would've shown Apollo's other two kids that he had with MaryAnne. That would had really put a spin on things....but perhaps that is to come.

I liked Tessa Thompson too. I believe that was actually her singing those songs.

Stallone of course will be the one to reap the majority of the accolades. In some ways, rightfully so, he did give a great and strong performance in the film.

Finally, the director and co-writer, Ryan Coogler, did a great job with the direction of the film. I really enjoyed how he filmed the fight scenes in what seemed like a 360 vision. I felt like I was right there in the ring with them! cool

Sly is such an underrated actor. If he hadn´t spent most of his career shooting highly commercial blockbuster movies his reputation would be much better. Ruined his public image, too. People think of him as a stupid, simple minded brute but he´s far from it. I for one would be very happy for him if he won an Oscar. It´s about time for him to get a bit more recognition.

He was great in Copland and Rocky Balboa (part 6) and in the original First Blood, and I even liked him in F.I.S.T.

But Rambo pt. II and III (and IV) and of course Rocky IV and V and all those silly straight to DVD releases were not really smart career choices......though some of them established him as a major blockbuster giant in Hollywood.

Oh, definitely.....at least commercially.

I don´t care what folks say about him either but most people don´t really appreciate him as a creative talent and smart person.

I finally got around to watching this gem of a movie, and wow, what a touching movie. Sylvester Stallone at his best, probably one of his finest acting ever. And Michael B.Jordan is great, too. That director , Ryan Coogler, did a great job and also wrote a great , moving and touching story about so much more than just boxing.

But with Rocky Balboa it´s always about so much more than just boxing.

At first I thought it might be a little bit corny and cheesy, and Rocky V was proof that an updated, more urban and rap oriented Rocky movie and soundtrack don´t really work but this movie is the polar opposite of that.

This movie has great music (songs and score) ,great acting, is a love letter to the city of Philadelphia, is about loss and grief and ambition and father issues, finding your own identity and so much more.

What a wonderful, uplifting movie!

Can´t wait to see more movies from Ryan Coogler.
