Darryl Dawkins: RIP

One of my fav old school NBA players passed away today.
The very first high school player to play in the NBA. DD was still a character after all of these years.

The first one to break a backboard iirc. Loved his spirit, naming his dunks was classic! RIP
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

What a monster. I used to sit on the floor behind the basket back in the '70's. I've been four feet away from him on a dunk. Holy crap. He was so powerful. RIP.

.

Yup. One of my faves too, way back in the day when he played for the Sixers with Caldwell Jones and Dr J. I was a little kid, and I remember being wowed by the Chocolate Thunder's dunks!

RIP.

Should have been better than he was - despite his size, he settled too much for outside shots instead of owning the paint.

I'll always remember him squaring off against Maurice Lucas in the 1977 Finals.

RIP Chocolate Thunder

OMG you are right. I thought we were going to see one man kill another, right there on the court!

Lucas was lucky Dawkins never threw a punch. As strong as Chocolate Thunder was, he would have knocked Luke the fuck out.

I don't know about beasting on the court - he averaged 6.1 rebounds a game.
