If you have everything backed up, I'd advised a clean install..

You can call your Computer maker and ask for recovery disk. I've never been impressed with system restore on the HDD. Adobe is a pain in the ass, Windows is a pain in the ass. lol I'm attempting to see what open source software allows you to record TV show via the computer.. DVR option.

I probably have the original disk, but I 've been hesitating doing this (again, probably-unfounded fears about losing stuff).

Thank you for looking into the DVR! I downloaded Kodi, but that doesn't seem to work in :canada:. sigh

eek Missed this... naw it should work up there too. I'm sorry things chang so quickly, there are a couple of ways to install TVADDONS, here's a turtorial link. Its a one click install... once you get familiar with it, you can configure a lot of channels, including a bunch from Canada. TVMC One Click video... in 5 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/w...1JGtGXm4Mk

So uninstall Kodi.... and go over to this page TVADDONS

You want the TVMC Windows Install... follow the set-up of the video above. Its an abbrviated version of Koid. I like this install becaus it has a small footprint, ideal for laptops / notebooks.

These are the movie channels you have to have.

  • Prime Wire
  • 2Movies Evovled
  • Cliq!
  • FlimOn.TV
  • Flims de France ( I hope you speak and understand French? We lol
  • GENESIS ( The very best channel)
  • I Wanna Watch TV
  • IceFilms.info
  • Movies 4 Me
  • Much Movies HD
  • Phoenix
  • Popcornflix
  • PopcornTv
  • Project Free TV
  • Salts
  • The Giddy Up Network
  • tubi.tv
  • TV4Me
  • TVonline 3.0

"Get More"... you can install other channels of your liking. These TV channels have all th stuff from HBO, AMC, BET, Encore, FOX HBO, ShowTime, Starz original programming and older original programming. You can find some of those show in GENESIS as well. You always access all media via Add-On Tab.

The same goes for Music. "Get More", Add-ons.

Looks like, with Kodi, you need to buy some kind of middle man to watch OTA (see "Intergrating Kodi with Your Over The Air Antenna"):

No you don't, unless you want to, there's several ways to access Kodi and/or TVaddons. As long as you have

Wifi you can use a computer. If you use TVADDONS you should have to setup WiFi.. network / password.

Kodi (XBMC) was once apart of Microsoft XBox. A team of geeks took XBox code and created Kodi (XBMC) for computers. Now Kodi can run on Android tablets (natively), Linux / Mac / PC computers. If you wish to run Kodi (withTVaddons then yes, you'll need aperipheral device: Androide media box (as shown in your link) or a Raspberry Pi. You can't run Kodi on a Chromebook or an Apple iPad, iPod, or Apple TV unless you root or jailbreak those devices.

TVADDONS is a different company from Kodi ,but they offer most of the movie channels I've listed. Since Kodi is open source the TVADDON team forked Kodi's code to build their own stream software. These two streaming services are rivals, they aren't one in the same. On of the new features TVaddons offers (not Kodi) is the one click setup fo rAndroid (tablets), Mac's and PC's. TVAddons created the one click streaming software novices, but after you understand how it works, you can configure it to add more channels or the correct term, repositories.

You can and stream Kodi without TVADDONS on everything. You can stream TVADDONS without Kodi on Mac, PC's, Amazon Fire, and Android (Tablets /phones). You can't stream TVADDONS without Kodi running underneath it use a Linux...you have to configure it. If you want to run Kodi and/or TVADDONS on a Raspberry Pi, you have to program and configure a SD card... time consuming but not diffucult. Again you can't TVADDONS with Koid if use a Raspbery Pi.

Most preconfigured Kodi boxes being sold for TV's (Android based) don't include TVADDONS, you'd have to configure the box.

I'll attempt to record a video before this weekend to show everyone my setup. Down load TVADDONS to your Win 7, you won't be sorry. cool

Will try to experiment with Kodi again, when I have the time. I don't think I'd bother with TVaddons. I just want to be able to watch OTA channels and timer-record them.

Go with TVADDONS is simple and you get the best of what TV streaming has to offer. There's open-sourceDVR called MythTV . I couldn't get it work but I'll check to see if I need to update it or something.
