After windows 8 I'm surprised they are still around.

MS will always have enterprise customers, but on the consumer end, the end is nigh

My husband has been test driving Windows 10 for some time. His advice to his customers is to upgrade if they currently have Windows 8 (he says it's a vast improvement) and not to upgrade if they are on Windows 7. The reason for this is that there are still some glitches/problems and often more are highlighted when something gets put out to the public. He's advising his Windows 7 customers to hang on for maybe six months and then decide.

As to whether it will revolitionize the way we use computers? No. It's really only what Windows 8 should have been.

Nope.

Microsoft needs to fix the issues they've had with all of their OS.

1. Driver issues

2. Blue Screen of Death

3. Random Crashing & Restarts

4. Spending upteem hours troublshooting...

5. A serious commitment to malware / virus protection

6. Faulty Updates

7. Hardware vendors should be able to update their drivers to Windows Update

8. Let's I forget.... DLL errors!

Microsoft should get rid of the Windows 10 automatic updates.

Unless you have a Window 7 Pro updating to Windows 10 is pointless endeavor, in my humble opinion. I'm sticking with Win 7.Pro No, I wouldn't download Windows 10 on the 29th, I'd wait 6 months... because shit is already crashing via automatic updates.

Nice aesthetics doesn't make an OS great or revolutionary. I'm still not down with those app tiles. One of the things Microsoft are attempting to do is, build their own eco-system around their products. Yet their phone or tablet aren't selling to any great degree.

By the way for all the geeks, you can run Windows 10 on a Raspberry Pi.

I still have Windows 7 on my old laptop. I HATE Windows 8 because it wouldn't allow me to play a lot of youtube videos I had downloaded on Windows 7 without having to download and use a VLC player. And I hate the way Windows 8 menu is set up more like a tablet than a laptop. I'm really excited to see what Windows 10 will be like.

Yep...my husband gets it a lot where customers buy a new PC with Windows 8 on and absolutely HATE it. The ones that ask him for advice before buying a new PC he usually says buy an older one with Windows 7. He does say that Windows 10 is a vast improvement on Windows 8 but that he'd still play safe for six months until the first release problems are ironed out.

I'm more than comfortable with my win 8.1, no crash, no freeze, no blue screen, traditional desktop option, works like a charm with high RAM

What does it do, copy Apple's operating system? That's what I'm guessing.

But BSD will take some of the enterprise custiomers away from Microsoft. Servers with 100% privacy & security are in high demands.

...OK, no one's talking about exactly what's new in it, after so many posts.... like, what will it HAVE that's so revolutionary....?

They've clean up the mess that is Windows 8 / 8.1... revolutionary. thumbs up!

Sarcasm aside...

I understand Micorsoft had to step up their game, mobile tech has left them in the dust. Microsoft had no choice but to get in the mobile hardware game... if they (Microsoft) wanted to remain profitable and relevant. In my humble opinon, the issues I've stated previoulsy... makes Microsoft a frustrating and muddled experience. I got tired of spending more time to getting Microsoft software to work than I actually used it.

Aesthetics doesn't equal using a consistent and dependable machine. If Microsoft sold cars with the same amount of issues they have with software, they would be deemed lemons. The software should just work and it doesn't, consistently. (IMHO)

As far as Linux, the thread's spoke of Windows 10. biggrin Though you, Tony and I are big fans fo Linux, the Linux community and the leadership has lost its way. That's a discussion for another thread. biggrin

We used to own a PC shop but now he just does call-outs for home and businesses as it's less restrictive (businesses with IT problems need you NOW not when your shop closes). He's a Microsoft affiliate so he gets to test drive new products in preparation for release.

As many others have said there is nothing new or revolutionary about Windows 10 and it definitely still has problems to be dealt with.

Linux is fine for the home user but TBH businesses tend to stick with either Microsoft or Apple.

I'll put it in the top 5 OS's if :

1. They finally solved .dll hell ( and, no--application isolation is NOT a solution ).

2. They removed the registry

3. They overhaul OS permissions.

That stopped being a winning formula for them after OS-X.

The problem with MS is that they keep throwing new coats of paint on the same rickety old house.

OS-X at least borrowed from Unix, so it's foundation started off better. OS-10 looks good--but, ....well, it's Windows again.
