Just saw an incredible sign of our times

We've probably all seen the commercials - "If you've been hurt in an accident!" "If you or a loved one suffered from taking Actos!" or one of many other solicitations by attorneys, looking for clients to either file or participate in a class action lawsuit.

But I just saw one that blew my mind. It went like this:

"Attention former NFL players! If you have suffered from any of the following diseases, a settlement fund has been set up for you. Call our law office right now to participate in your settlement!"

It was a serious commercial. And I know the NFL set up a huge settlement fund for players who've suffered from/died from concussions, Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), etc. But I figured the NFL knows how to contact its former players. Maybe not.

I just never expected to see a TV commercial that starts out "Attention former NFL players!" It's justweird, I guess.

As big as The NFL is and as powerful as they are, there's bound to be some former players that they don't automatically recognize. For every legend like Joe Namath, Montana and Rice who receive praise long after their playing years, there's the lower tiered players like lineman and guys who just got their feet wet for a few years in the league but not long enough to qualify for a pension, that commercial was for them. I'll trust your words on the ad since I've yet to see it.

I heard one for NCAA players: it said something about "was your name or likeness used in video games without your consent...." I talked to a guy that was and who is in a few NCAA games. He was not all that interested in taking part...until after we talked. He told me he signed up! I said "I get 10%" the laughed a little and then seemed to get pissed.

I once saw an incredible performance of Sign 'O' The Times by Prince.
I don't know if there were any lawyes or NFL players in the audience,
but if there were, I hope some of 'em were able to bump into each other after the show, like in the parking lot, or in the washroom or whatever and exchang each other's info.
Y'know,
to take care of matters like this and whatnot.

But now that I think about it,
the chances of something like that happening at a Prince concert are probably pretty fuckin' minscule.
So, I'm glad that there are commercials like this.
Because if Prince couldn't bring these people together,

then maybe these kind of ads can.

Knowing that NFLers and lawyers of this particular kind of specialty have better access to opportunities in which they could hook up on a professional level (heck, maybe even on a non-professional level, depending on what each party is looking for in terms of relationships),
that'll make me sleep a little better.
Or maybe not.
I mean, the more I get deeper into this matter as I keep commenting on this, the more I'm beginning to realize that I don't think this subject crosses my mindall too often.
As a matter fact, I think they may well be the only time the subject as ever entered into my mind.
Even moreso, I think I may well forget about all of this as soon as I leave this thread.
Ah well,
whatever happens,
I wish everyone invovled (including those talking about it on this thread) well and good luck on all your future endeavors.
