Deadly Heatwave in India

This is horrible. The lady at the sandwich shop I frequent was telling me last week that her mom had reported crazy weather in India. Harvest time was super-rainy and fields got flooded, spoiling many crops and preventing a good harvest...THEN the heatwave kicked in.

Deaths from major heatwave sweeping India top 1,100

Southern India has borne the brunt of the hot, dry conditions and many of the victims are construction workers, elderly or homeless people unable to heed official advice to stay indoors.

In the worst-hit state of Andhra Pradesh nearly 900 people have died since May 18 -- double the total number of heat-related deaths last summer, authorities said.

In neighbouring Telangana, where temperatures hit 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit) over the weekend, more than 200 people have died in the last week compared to 31 in the whole of last year.

In New Delhi, forecasters said they expected the high temperatures to continue into next week -- adding to the misery of the thousands of poor living on the capital's streets with little shelter from the hot sun.

Hospitals in the worst-affected states were on alert to treat victims of heatstroke and authorities advised people to stay indoors and drink plenty of water.

Hundreds of people -- mainly from the poorest sections of society -- die at the height of summer every year across India, while tens of thousands suffer power cuts from an overburdened electricity grid.

i was reading about the news of the heatwave in india yesterday.

this is very scary. seems the globe is going through some sort of evolutionary shift that is affecting the weather patterns.

like out here in california and the drought. so far it's not as serious as india and cannot even compare.

however the drought is causing massive economic problems for the farm workers. they are facing food shortages and some are experiencing homelessness due to lack of work.

i mean what's happeing?

my heart goes out to those in india. i hope the weather will bring relief to the peoples, animals and land by returning to normal patterns.

pray

there are some who say that 'space weather', as in increased solar activity, bombardment of various quantum particles, is affecting our planet

Over 2000 dead now....and yet there's hardly a mention on the British news despite the high number of Indian descendants/immigrants who must surely have family over there or at the very least be interested (I'm interested and I have no connection to India). It's the second deadliest heatwave in Indian history and the fifth deadliest in world history, I feel for anyone living in it at the moment. They say rain soon hopefully.

Very upsetting. sad I find even moderately hot weather quite uncomfortable. I can only imagine what these people are going through.
