Thanks. I knew I overly rely on Sprouts simple common sense told me as much. The only problem is majority of shrimp I eat I don't prepare myself. Granted I don't eat much shellfish I really don't like the texture much

By "unclean", I mean the animals and other creatures that eats the waste, trash, and/or garbage on land and/or in water (oceans, rivers, seas, lakes, ponds).

Shellfishes such as shrimps are unclean because they help clean up the mess in the oceans.

I know of no study that proves that eating any these "waste eaters" is harmful to your health strictly due to their diet, but I'd love to see one.

I can understand not eating these animals due to horrors of factory farming, use of steroids and/or antibiotic and the damage "wild shrimp, etc" farming has on the environment.

The only time I see "unclean animal" claims it has to do with religion...which is a total joke.

And then there's the dumping of waste products in the ocean...

Purple, the shrimp they are talking about are farmed.

Tony, animals are clean if you cook them. Matters how they are farmed. Free range and such. Consumer Reports does strict testing of meat.

So much for the big government hand. The FDA only tests one percent of shrimp.

I must admit that I like shrimp, but I don't eat it often. When I do eat it, it is cooked as shrimp cocktail or fried. I would not eat it raw in any instance.

I love oysters on the half shell eaten raw, but I haven't eaten them in years. I do realize the danger in eating them raw. When I eat them now, I prepare them in a stew thoroughly cooked.

I used to love raw oysters on the half shell years ago when they were cheap. But, it just isn't safe to eat them any more. confused

Then why some people are having problem with high blood pressure from eating pork chops, bacon, and any other part of the pig/swine even after it's cooked well done? And how about some people getting sick from eating bad oysters or shrimp even after they're cooked well done?

There are many food items that will give you high cholesterol and often it is due to the way something is cooked. It's true that pork and shellfish have high levels but eggs, for example, have the highest levels of cholesterol and they are not a product from "waste eaters" as you put it.

All meats and vegetables have a shelf life and eating any spoiled item - even when cooked properly will make you sick.

The examples of (mostly) human made contaminates you listed are not only in bottom feeders but also present in the "clean" animals you eat. Tuna and swordfish have the highest levels of mercury, shrimp has the lowest.

Chicken has the highest levels of contamination when it comes to meat.

SO... biggrin

If you are a vegan / vegetarian, don't eat red mear / pork/ shell fish.... to each his and her own. People around the world eat all types of stuff, cooked and raw. When I lived in Japan, I damn near starved. lol

Most people I know who work in resturants, many of them don't eat out. My brother told me, if you saw how resturants handled food, you would never eat out again and he doesn't.

Tony you are aware when you are dealing with large amounts of grains, meat, or food production... rodent hair / droppings are a fact of life. The USA FDA has guidlines for how much rodent hair / dropping can be - per ton- in food. Those green or string beans people buy in a plastic bags, they sprinkle metal particals to extend the shelf life. Are metals suppose to be in your body?

If you tripping about all this, I'd advise you to grow your own food. lol

Nobody should eat tuna.

It's close to extinction.

So, if we all refrain from eating tuna for a decade, they have a chance to survive.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.
