Rate The Last Movie You Watched

It's time for another exciting chapter of Movies That I Saw The Last Half Of!

Today's installment is the magnum opus "Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army".

What a movie! Now, as you may recall from a previous entry of mine, someone took the time to catalogue every single Sylvester Stallone movie/TV kill.
I believe the final tall for Sly was 539.
But with all dues respect to the tallymaster, Auralnauts (I trust me, I respect them A LOT!), this tally is way, way, waaaaayyyyy too low!

A quick check of the "Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army" section of their incredibly-detailed Kill Count
seems to exclude the hundreds of Russians that Rambo blew up with all the detonators he placed around their camp.
I mean, he blew HUNDREDS of Russians. It was great!

I was about to contact Auralnauts and let them know about their mistake but in
my research I noticed the Rules Of The Kill Count:

THE RULES
1. Guns, blades and projectiles always kill unless otherwise depicted
2. Close proximity explosions kill unless otherwise depicted
3. Indirect kills as a result of an explicit action by Stallone count
4. Kills must occur on screen, or be reasonably indicated through on screen action
5. Dream sequences, fantasies or movies within a movie count. If it's on screen, it's a kill.
6. People that are killed more than once count each time.

Clearly the hundreds of blown-up Russians fall under Rule #2. Most of the hundreds of blown-up
Russians were not shown being blown up in close proximity. But boy were they ever blown up!

The other thing I noticed about the Auralnauts Kill Count was that at the end, they list all the ways
Stallone killed someone. Apparently in some movie he killed someone by "Assisted Suicide". I
may have to go back and watch to see whose suicide he assisted.

But I digress. This episode of "Movies That I Watched The Last Half Of" isn't about Kill Count, it's
about "Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army".

The best thing about this movie is that it was filmed at Stallone's absolute physical peak, and he
doesn't wear a shirt at almost any point in the movie. Say what you want, but that dude was RIPPED.

But let's explore the emotional side of this movie. As you may or may not know, it revolves
around the Russian war against Afghanistan. Rambo just happens to be living in Afghanistan
among some peaceful-looking-but-actually-not rebels. He bonds with a young boy:

[img:$uid]http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff311/RodeoSchro/Rambo_zpskv1cxkpx.jpg[/img:$uid]

Sorry if that came over as giant as it was when I copied it. It's the only picture I could find.

So anyway, I got to thinking: This movie was set in the late '80s. The boy character was, like, 13
or something. Which means that in 2001, he'd have been in his mid-to-late 20's.

What if that dude went bad and joined al-Qaeda? How cool of a movie would it be if Rambo went
back to Afghanistan to fight al-Qasda, kills his way through their top ranks, and then has a show
down with their leader - the same young boy from "Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army"?!?

C'mon, that would be FREAKING EPIC.

Say Rambo corners the elusive leader and just before they go hand-to-hand to the death, the
leader takes off his outer garment and reveals that he's wearing the necklace Rambo gave him in
"
Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army". Hell yes that would be infinitely awesome!

You could play it so many ways - Rambo kills the dude even though he's crying his eyes out;
Rambo kills the dude and then laughs at life's absurdity while suffering a nervouse breakdown;
Rambo kills the dude, looks at the camera and says, "Add one more to my Kill Count"; or Rambo
and the dude sit down for tea and reminesce, and then Rambo kills him with his teaspoon.

So I give "Rambo III - Rambo Destroys The Entire Russian Army" 369 Blown Up Russians
out of a possible 500 Blown Up Russians. And I give my proposed sequel a perfect score, no matter what scoring system you use.

Anyone got Stallone's email address? I've got a meeting to schedule!

P. S.: If someone can tell me how to reduce that picture size, I'll do it. Thanks!

little Boy- five out of five from me.
Fantastic film. I am not usually a fan of these type of tear jerkers but I loved it. I usually jive well with mainstream movies reviewers, but they have not been kind. I myself think it's an instant classic and believe that film critics are going to be coming back on this one and revising their take on it. As tear jerker family movies go, this one is beautifully made acted and directed. Go see it!

Having seen and enjoyed The Rewrite (and, before that, About a Boy), I saw that this was on TV:

I figured, 'What the hell? Let's see what all the fuss was about...'

I made it through about 15 minutes. There is suspending disbelief and then there is suspending your gag reflex.

I'll tell you what: The next time you hear of an A-List movie star dating the proprietor of a mom-and-pop shop, give me a jingle and I'll watch the rest.

In honor of Rodeo and his reviews of movie fragments, I give this treacly bullshit FIVE-BARFS-OUT-OF-FIVE:

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) - A transsexual punk-rock girl from East Berlin tours the U.S. with her band as she tells her life story and follows the former lover/band-mate who stole her songs.

I watched this again before seeing John Cameron Mitchell reprise his role on Broadway for the last time over the weekend. I was going to compare this to Purple Rain, but the non music parts in this movie are so much better even to non-fans. star star star star star

Watched Taken 3 on PPV..It was decent and way better than Taken 2...However, I'm tired of the films..The ending was so predictable and I didnt like how the camera-frames kept switching every 2-seconds..I got dizzy during the action scenes...And i HATE what happened to Jean Grey.....Please no Taken 4 UNLESS the plot and cast are outstanding...I Love Liam...

The movie has also been described as a western. cowboy I liked it a lot as well and just bought the Blu-ray. The vinyl soundtrack is a nice package too.

Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) - A veteran actress comes face-to-face with an uncomfortable reflection of herself when she agrees to take part in a revival of the play that launched her career 20 years earlier.

Anyone who is a fan of director Olivier Assayas' earlier collaboration with Juliette Binoche, Summer Hours (I know I'm not the only one) will adore their reteaming here in this sublime tale about aging gracefully with some not so subtle life-imitating-art sequences. Juliette Binoche has never been better and the same can easily be said about Kristen Stewart who won a César Award for best supporting actress for her role as Maria's assistant, Valentine. My movie of the year so far. star star star star star

I watched Avengers Ultron in Imax 3D and I liked it lots!

It was a good seven out of ten cuz I liked the banter and the action, even though it was rather long and not all of the special fx was that good (I hate it when you can see very clearly the figures are fake, which happened at the beginning)

A very enjoyable movie to watch at home on a weekend night. Has a little bit of an 80s vibe because of the music (some of the songs sounded like songs from the 80s, a bit dark and heavy on synthesizers, the score was also very much in the style of 80s action flics but this is not really an ordinary action flic).

The movie reminded me a bit of some of the better John Carpenter movies and the first Terminator movie but I don´t want to spoil this for those who haven´t watched it yet.

While watching this movie I had the impression that there were a lot of scenes with alcohol and marijuana use in it. Not that that´s a bad thing but it was a bit too obvious.

Great rental movie.

Four out of five.

***** wink

they (the movie guys) were great and spot on.

I feared it would be bleak based on the play for which the main characters were rehearsing, but it ended quite positively in my opinion.

The only reservation I would have for others is that like Birdman, it's a movie about show business (it awesomely goofs on superhero movies in one scene) with a LOT of dialogue so if that kind of stuff bores you then skip it. Not that I think that applies to you, Ace.
