Let me say this...If your Son is bored with watching ANY of the Star Wars films at the PERFECT age of 8, then he'll never be a hard-core Fan...A lot of kids will love action figures but hate the cartoons or whatever...We all were kids when Star Wars made it to TV in the 80's..You either liked it or you didn't...You NEVER fell asleep....Your Son has so many Live-Action Super Hero options today Vs The 80's...

You're probably right but he hasn't tried to watch them for over a year now and has specifically asked if he can watch one. I REALLY want him to love the films as I did and so I would love him to enjoy it this time. That's why I want to get it right. I think I'm going to go with chronological as other orgers suggested and because I'm much more familiar with those. If he doesn't like them then I guess I'll have to accept that. I'll let everyone know how it goes smile

I started to love Star Wars around the same age as your son. Its tricky with kids today (like someone said earlier, theres a lot of options), but if he watches A New Hope, which is the one id recommend as well and loses interest yet again, nip it in the butt dude. However, chances are he'll come across those movies at a later age and he'll begin to understand it's excellence and importance (Well, the original 3's excellence, that is)

.

Edit: Oh wait, I just saw that you watched it together and he enjoyed it! Great to hear and apologies for being late to this party! lol biggrin

This is the best viewing order:

1) Star Wars 1977
2) Empire

There is more bad SW than good!

As a hardcore SW fan I agree with the release order. There are no big revelation in 1-2-3 (other than Palpatine being Sidious if u're really that dumb that you haven't figured it out from the beginning) but on the other hand 2 and 3 have the father/sister revelations, which are huge and ruined if you've watched 1-2-3. There's also the surprise of discovering Yoda on Dagobah as well, and I guess the Jabba surprise of 3 has been spoiled by this fucking useless sequence put back in 1 but still. And they're somewhat very intriguing and mysterious, as a child in the 80's I kept wondering about the old Jedi order and all that mysterious stuff that happened before. You also see only the fringes of the universe while in 1-2-3 you see more of the global picture. For all those reasons I believe 4-5-6-1-2-3 is better. This is how me and a friend introduced it to another friend a few months back and it worked perfectly.

As far as The Star Wars Saga goes, only episodes 3 through 6 (Revenge Of The Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi) are worth watching.

I stand by my words. cool

Besides the fact that I like Episode I, I think excluding it makes no sense at all for it would make a lot of things in II and III totally confusing. Also, this order may save the "father" surprise but it still spoils the "sister" surprise of VI.

The only thing that makes no sense at all for the viewer when watching 4-5-6-1-2-3 is young Anakin replacing Vader at the end of ROTJ, but as we are talking about an educated discovery with someone who knows the film being with the newcomer, it can be solved by a simple explaination ("this is Vader when he was young, as you'll see next week").

I can't really understand some of the changes Lucas made when he toyed with the original films (the Jabba scene in IV, young Anakin in VI). Of course both are inconsequent if you watch them in 1-2-3-4-5-6 order but it's like Lucas didn't realize that the sage should FIRST be viewed in the order it was released in order to avoid spoilers and keep a sense of mystery, and only AFTER that be re-watched in chronological order for those who wish to watch it over and over.

Nevertheless, I think the less fans toy with a work of art the better, which is why I believe it should only be release OR chronological order. But I respect that some fans go through so much effort figuring out a better order.
