"Fear The Walking Dead"

The Walking Dead creator and writer Robert Kirkman confirmed on Twitter yesterday that the official name of the AMC show’s spinoff will be Fear the Walking Dead. Rumors of the name have been around since a leaked script back in January hinted that the spinoff’s pilot would also be called “Fear the Walking Dead”. Kirkman confirmed the rumors with an excited tweet that also teases more information coming in the near future.

Also part of that leaked script was the hint that Fear the Walking Dead would take place near the beginning of the walker outbreak, not months after the fact like the currently-running mothership show. Another earlier rumor points to the series taking place in Los Angeles.

One bit of confirmed information we have is that Sons of Anarchy star Kim Dickens is set for the female lead of the series. Dickens’ character will be that of a guidance counselor navigating her way around the beginning of the apocalypse with her two children from a previous marriage and a divorced school teacher. The male lead, playing that school teacher accompanying Dickens’ character, will be Cliff Curtis.

Despite not having a name up until this point, a second season for Fear the Walking Dead has already been ordered by AMC. The network is currently reaping the benefits of another massively popular spinoff, Better Call Saul, which has been well received among fans and critics alike during its first season.

Or in case one of those actors ends up with a bullet or axe in their head. timeout

Title of the new show sucks big time, but I like the "prequel" angle they are going with, showing how the apocalypse began.

I've read 2 part of the 3 part series on the Governor (connected with the tv show's Walking Dead)

It seems for a few week after IT happened it wasn't so bad, people were still going to work and such and then began encountering the dead here and there

I think this is a good step. Especially since we have 5 months until season 6

I think Escape From New York...

the so-called zombies should never, ever touch the subject(s). technically, the brazilian zombies committed assault by 'touching' the terrified passenger. not cool. *my* prank would be more of an aimless shuffling around zombie invasion, silly and not personally threatening, kind of like a zombie flash mob. i feel sorry for that lady on the subway in brazil. yikes! i'd be scared too

I hope so. I think the weekly debrief adds to the fun of the show. Might be interesting to see a host other than Chris Hardwick, though. (Not that I don't dig Chris.)

What makes the walker's skulls so soft? and not weeks or months later...right away! it would be HARD to stab a knife through a skull... oh well some of the effects are cray cray!

Seems odd that they wouldn't have one in staying with the tradition especially since season 2 of FTWD has already been ordered. I've been really enjoying TTD.

Same here. I love The Walking Dead, and it is interesting that it all started after things had gone to the dogs with Rick Grimes waking up long after the world had collapsed, and the show rarely dealt with the virus itself and how people initially reacted to it, and I was completely ok with that but now we get a chance to see things from a different angle ,slightly different time frame and from different people´s perspective, and I personally can´t wait to see it from an L.A perspective.

Great show, great idea.

I don´t mind the name, but it does sound a bit odd.

And season 5 is probably my favorite season so far.

As with the Romeroverse, their is no absolute certitude that it's a virus. We don't know what provokes it, it could be an act of God. I think this mystery is what makes it all the more terrifying and providing an definitive explaination would necessarily be disappointing. The last episode of S01 came close to that but I don't remember the word "virus" ever being pronounced.

Back to topic yeah, I was kinda disappointed when I started reading the comic (before the series) that it was already post-civilization, because I think observing the end of civilization is a pretty fascinating topic, too. It would also help explaining how it could all happen so quickly, IIRC Rick was in a coma for about a month: how slow, dumb zombies could manage to overcome the US army, police and national guard altogether in a matter of weeks remains to be seen, there must have been a lot of HUGE human mistakles and poor political decisions for this to happen.

I have to admit that living in India I'd love to see a spin-off happening here, I mean in case of a zombie apocalypse India is the LAST place I'd like to be lol

Because it is so crowded?

I absolutely LOVE apocalyptic stories . I´ve never been a big fan of zombie movies in the past because some were just too dumb but I like the Romero movies and over time I started watching more and more zombie movies. I also liked 28 Days Later. And Mad Max II is one of my all time favorite movies. Hope the next one is not going to be a disaster like Mad Max III was.

Yeah MMIII was a disaster and still critically well recieved, go figure...

India yeah because it's overcrowded so of course THAT's not good in a zombie scenario, and if you add to that the fact that it's already a mess without zombies, the extreme heat climate, mosquitos, rainy season, floods... IDK, + also seeing how people of Indian culture would react to the situation... I mean it'd be really a different story in more than one way... Overall I think if TWD is going to expend as a franchise they will need to address the rest of the world at some point. For example I CAN'T believe that there are not some countries/regions where the government/local authorities managed to maintain some kind of a civilization... Iceland, New Zealand, Sicilia, Hawaii, Australia even...

According to the very short official trailer they're going in the "its a virus" direction. But I do want to know what took place when it started. I did noticed that in the beginning episodes of TWD the zombies could run and turn doorknobs not shuffle along and scrape at things like they do now.
