How easy/hard is it for you to grow a beard? I'm 17 and I can only get long sideburns and the scruffy chin hairs. They don't connect Maybe do, just not like did before |

Don't get discouraged. You have a long time yet to grow the type of beard you really want. For now, rock what you have!!! If a beard isn't "it" - then pick something else wonderful about you and wear it like no one else does. After all, there's only one you. Sideburns and scruffy chin hairs may be your look!
I've been shaving since I was eleven and can grow a beard overnight. It's largely due to genetics. To maintain healthy hair growth, I eat right, exercise daily, take a biotin supplement, and don't fuss too much with it. I'm probably lucky in that department -- but even more luckier that facial hair is in (relatively) right now. Just centuries ago, women with small feet were all the rage in China. That doesn't mean I'd be anxious to revert back to foot-binding just to fit in.

When I was in high school I put a little bit of vaseline on my Mustache and it made it thicker..I don't know if it works for White people...My Sideburns and beard did not start growing in until after high school...It's interesting that our Pubic/Crotch hair grows in when we're teens but our facial hair is like snail-mail... |

Pretty hard, never had a full beard. Hairy as all get-out from the neck down, though. |

I can pull off a goatee and mustache but I will never be able to pull off a full beard. Its very sparse on my cheeks. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything. |

Pretty easy, but I hate this trend for hipster beards doing the rounds at the moment...it hums of people that are just so desperate to be cool. Every guy aged 18 to 30 in the UK at the moment seems to be trying to grow a crap beard, whether they can or not, to go with their deck shoes and skinny fit jeans. That whole trying to be unique and individual by dressing the same as everyone else in your demographic....never understood that... |

Thanks for the positive response. I actually dug the sideburn/chin hair look for a while but eventually I started wishing they could connect and make a real beard. There was a time where I used to shave off even a single hair and always go for the cleanshaven look, but now beards are becoming a popular thing and I'm starting to fall into the hype.. it gives a more mature look. I feel like I have a baby-face without it. I've heard about biotin supplements.. I might give it a try. There are some crazier options I would never try.. like pubic hair transplants.
Maybe do, just not like did before |

Haha I have a feeling I'll be the same way once I actually CAN grow it.. folks always want what they can't have. I'm a fan of the 5'o clock shadow look, which is what I wish I could grow

Reading your response reminded me of something one of my dad's friends suggested.. he bought some hair thickener spray (you just spray it on bald spots and it gives the illusion of hair) and he suggested I spray it on face (since I have the sideburns and chin, I'd only need to spray it on the jawline to 'make' a beard).. but IDK.
And ditto about the pubic hair Totally unnecessary and a pain to constantly shave it, but faces look like guppies for years.. probably why people try to transplant Maybe do, just not like did before |

I hope not! IK they're really stylish now though.. ashamedly I'll admit I'm actually not trying to grow a real manly beard or even a thick one. I want one of those shadow beards that the hipster Hollywooders have.. I find em cool looking and they give the illusion of more maturity.

I have a feeling I might look silly with it too (which would mean it's a lose-lose situation, growing it or not growing it).. my main problem is my face is wide.. by all means, it won't look close to the 'Prince beard' in 1990 (which I actually thought was really tight)

This sort of stuff scares me because it makes me imagine myself in 30 years with a baby's face still

I've honestly never tried to grow a beard. But judging from the frequency with which I need to shave to keep a clean face, I'd say I could get decent coverage in about two weeks or so.
This is a relatively new development, though. I'm 42, and as recently as five years ago I think my beard would have taken significantly longer to fill out. [Edited 3/11/15 14:32pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
