The Greatest QB In NFL History -- Who's Your Pick?

I take Joe Montana, and my top 10 would include, in no particular order:

Tom Brady

Otto Graham

John Elway

Johnny Unitas

Bart Starr
Dan Marino
Steve Young
Peyton Manning

The 10th would be a tie among several others, including Roger Staubach, and Dan Fouts. Others on the rise such as Aaron Rodgers could crack this list with more time.

I'll take Elway as #1.

Montana

Young

Stauback

Brady

Tarkington

Marino

Bradshaw

Fouts

Don't laugh (Jim McMahon) He had the highest winning % of all time at the point in which he retired.

(I can't speak to anyone before I started watching/playing which was 1975)

I can't forget Warren Moon.

My list would be a little different in terms of greatest QBs I've watched. Off the top of the dome . . .

Montana
Elway

Brady
Bradshaw
Young
Manning
Favre
Rodgers
Moon
Aikman

I'd substitute Fouts for Aikman, as Fouts was a maestro, but stand by Manning and Farve.

Most accurate: Aikman

Escapability: Cunningham, Tarkenton

Winners: Montana, Bradshaw, Staubach, Elway, Marino, Young, Manning

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

The greatest, all-around QB in NFL history is named John Elway. I am not a Broncos fan and never "liked" him, but he was the man. PERIOD. Could run and throw (accurately), and if you gave him back the ball with a minute left in the game, your ass was in trouble.

Make it so, Number One...

My Mt.Rushmore of qb's are
Montana
Bradshaw
Elway
Staubach
These guys played in the era when defenses were actually allowed to touch the
Qb. For the old schoolers older than me I'll name Unitas as honorable mention.he was before my time.

After that the list can go Brady,Manning,Aikman,Favre,Marino with the latter
4 in no particular order.

It's ironic you bring up McMahon I was just talking about him yesterday. I liked the guy's heart and skillset. Here is the problem with him he tried to be too much of a goofball and I think that cost him his career. I don't know the stats of his winning percentage but I can't see his San Diego days factoring in that because he
sucked major balls there.

Good point.

The era in which the qb played is an important, often overlooked factor, which is why I was saying on the other thread that we look at more than just stats.

If I have to choose just one, I'm gonna go with Montana as the all-around best up to this point in history.

Brady and Manning had great years before many if not most of the rules changes that protect the QB from hits today. Now they've probably played longer than the other guys as a result but still.

Keep in mind that McMahon was never the same after that illegal hit he took from the GB Packers that wrecked his shoulder. It is one of the reasons that I still really DISLIKE the Packers.

My position still stands. Joe Montana is THE greatest QB in NFL history. SuperBowl record: 4-0.

I still say that Tom Brady is a pretty powerful first runner-up. His SuperBowl record is 4-2 at the time of this very post and he still have some time left in his NFL career to potentially be the first ever QB to have 5 SuperBowl wins. Also, he is the greatest QB in AFC championship history with 6 wins thus far.

EDIT: It must be noted that Terry Bradshaw is also 4-0 in SuperBowls.

Other than Bradshaw's SB record also being 4-0, I agree.

Bradshaw and Joe suffered bad losses in the conference playoffs. The Giants boatraced the Niners in the '86 divisionals, and upset his heavilyfavored Niners team at Candlestick in the '91 NFC title game.

I'm not laughing at Jim McMahon at all. But I will have a shocking look ( eek ) at the fact that you ranked John Elway ahead of Joe Montana! Seriously, did you not see that infamous one-sided SuperBowl where Elway's Denver Broncos got BURIED by Montana's San Francisco 49ers?

Hence why the Montana VS. Brady debates are still ongoing even in 2015. nod Both QBs had better teammates. Both QBs had masterminded head coaches.
