I felt that way last year.

I don't know about the black convertible sports car, but why don't you satisfy your urges?

Your life is more stable then ever, right?

So, why don't you sit around with your kids and ask where they would want to travel and make a plan together. It's a good learning experience for them.

You can teach them budgeting, saving money, finding out what they like (opposed to what tv-commercials tell them what to like), how to plan for a trip, make to-do-lists etcetera.

Maybe it will take another 3 years before you saved enough money, but then you have a 3-year preparation that is fun, exciting and bonding.

And find out what kind of make-over you want and get it done.

Celebrate life

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I guess I am as well.

I never sleep well

Want to work somewhere else

I've had the travel itch for a few years now

I can't say I'm bored because I'm usually pretty busy but I can say that I don't think my life is exciting enough

I can always use a makeover

I'm in the process of purchasing a luxury vehicle as a treat to myself...wanted white but getting black

woot!

It just means that you've climbed out of that dark place finally!!! party

I'm turning 45 later this year, which is really midlife (as I can't see living past 90 if I'm even lucky enough to get that far).

The travel bug has hit me HARD. nod
I'm spending more money on clothes now than ever.
And I need to get a new car...can't do the Mustang convertible b/c my kids are young still (in fact I need something bigger than my current SUV)...so even though my pocket screams "buy the affordable minivan" my ego says; "get yourself the chrome-splashed SUV with all the horsepower".

Ya'll are bipolar lol Welcome to my world!

It's okay to want those things, as long as you don't get yourself into debt or be impulsive about it when getting them.

I'm sure everyone I know thinks I'm having a mid-life crises .....

Last year after the hell of that winter in NYC, I closed part of my business and hubby and I sold our apt and moved to Costa Rica. We decided in April and were out by September 30.

I mean, I HAVE been secretly planning for about 5 years...unbeknownst to hubby lololol but it really did shock everyone I know...I lived in NYC for 30 years.

All of a sudden I was like holy sh*t I'm 51, how the hell did that happen? lololol What am I still doing here with all this tech that can free me from the 'art official cage' ....so we bounced...

NYC isnt as necessary as it used to be ...

well, the food...i live in manuel antonio, (very touristy) there are some really good restauarants here, however typical costa rican food is cooked in canola oil and LOADED with salt.

on the upside - you can get amazing fresh food, the chicken and porl taste amazing, i mean its SO different from the USA, it explodes with taste (and im not even a fan of pork) they dont use hormones here because its too expensive, all the beef is grass fed, however its tough because the cattle graze up and down these crazy mountains...

all the fruits and veggies are amazing, and taste better than the best organic from the states. for the first month or so you kind of bang around looking for the good sources for things and now we eat like kings and its costs less than a 1/3 of what we spent in NYC.

for example a months worth of beef (from the best restaurant supplier) ribeyes/ filet mignons, burgers, skirt steaks $90.00.

2 whole chickens $16.00

mostly everything we eat is grown near where we live and the best thing is you now KNOW the people who grow your food. you'd think costa rica would be further along in their 'organic' movement, but youlearn that most farms ARE organic but cant afford the certification.

they dont allow GMO crops for consumption here in costa rica, they grow gmo banana, pineapples, palm, and ship that ish to the usa, costa ricans dont eat it. they do use pesticides here but they use the kind you can wash off, so you wash all your fuits and veggies thoroughly and its fine,

costa rica has its issues but food, and health care are reasonable. there also isnt a steady stream of negative propaganda here...its pura vida ...costa ricans are proud and happy to love their country and i really love assimilating (or doing my best to assimilate) much of their culture has thier priorities in order smile

at least thats how its been so far smile there's crime like everywhere else, there's shadyness like everywhere else, but its a tiny country...and its knock you off your face everyday beautiful.

after leaving nyc its noce to be in a place thats not a TARGET for terrorism. no one hates costa rica except maybe nicaragua ....

i'm learning spanish and i suck at it so far, they are very patient with me, and appreciate i'm learning their language.

you can find great costa rican food smile and it's usually either chicken/pork/beef with rice beans plantains and in the right restaurant its amazing!

i've started making my own coconut milk and coconut oil...you can find coconuts for free all over the beach, the young ones are easier to use though....things that are more expensive here than the usa are electricity and cars....even used cars are 5-10K more than what you'll pay in the usa....gas is pricey, but it just dropped alot....you can get around without a car in many places here but we are 2.5 hours from the intl airport...

you can live here on ANY budget though...however people here complain about how expensive it is but tbh if you let go of alot of american things - its not expensive ...many expats stubbornly try to recreate what they left behind which makes no sense to me.

i havent worn long pants since I left NYC. I have dress flip flops and casual flip flops lololol and you can't dress down enough here. one thing amazes me though ticas wear leggings or skinny jeans 24/7 here and i cannot fathom how they handle it in the heat lololol

I have seriously thought of retiring outside of the US and i have thought of costa rica. Can I please ask you a few questions?

1) How many times did you visit before you moved there?

2) is there a specific area of the country or your town where other americans live?

3) Are you white or Latino/a, black (probably easier transition if black or latino)

4) how do locals feel about alot of Americans transplanting to Costa Rica?

5) How is crime in the country?

6) How is the banking system set up? Do you feel save depositing money in their banks and buying property in costa rica?

I know a lot of questions...but I'm serious about retiring somewhere in carribean. US getting way too expensive for retirement income.
