That kid's hair is still blonde when shaved. It might be lightened a little when longer but that doesn't mean that it was bleached. The longer my kid's hair is the lighter is looks - no lightening done.

Also, the blonde looks fantastic on her. Completely compliments her skin tone.

I'm curious about the first picture on the top. Are you saying that his hair is supposed to look and grow like that?

I was born with white as snow hair from a mother that is brunette and a father with East Indian heritage that has jet black hair.

As I got older it grew to a darker blonde, so there was a period when the ends were lighter than the roots - a natural process.

Also blonde hair always looks lighter when longer and darker when cut short. It tends to fade in the sun very easily. None of the pics in here, except the blue, looks dyed.

That said, even if he had his hair lightened when he got a bit older (which again would not even require bleach) I see nothing wrong with it. The pictures of them really young do not look bleached.

Some of those pictures look pretty natural, and kids change hair colors as they grow older, but I don't think either of their parents are natural blondes. I think it's actually healthy for their hair color to match their mom's in terms of identity.

So your 3 year is going to say" can i bleach my hair mommy dearest" and you will say of course son. So because i get lets say caramel hilights my kids should too? Youre not the sharpest tool in the box are ya? [Edited 1/15/15 15:36pm]

I'm sharp enough to know it's just hair, and children typically have very healthy hair that can sustain a lot of playful behavior. It doesn't hurt anyone. These aren't the first children to play dress up, punky or not.

Oh, and Gwen Stefani doesn't just have caramel highlights, she has really defining hair that must involve routine visits by her stylist, and if it's dye (Erin may be right and it's natural, I'm not inclined to think we know for sure), the kids are obviously into it since we're seeing them at different ages, and hair lengths with the dye jobs being kept up.

For another hobby, I'd suggest you start with finger paints. Don't mistake them for Manic Panic though.

"indulge" neutral

of course, there are those with religious reasons here just as all over the world (but they are in a very small minority)

Basically, you have to really present your case for it if you have no better reason than if you want your boy to look just like his daddy. The hospitals don't offer this as a standard thing and advise all prospective parents against it.

It used to be more commonplace here in Australia, maybe back in the old days, so yes, grown men here and there are cut (in my own experience I've only seen up close, ONE).

Where I am from - Sweden - it is even rarer, circumcision was NEVER a thing there.

So where you are the muslim/jewish and other religions that practices circumcision are in the minority, thats fine. I dont think any hospital in the western hemisphere offers it as a standard procedure. It used to be more commonplace amongst the "white population" in Australia but isnt anymore, because those with religious beliefs will still do it even today. Also yes, Sweden has a minority of people who circumcise for religious beliefs. Saying it was "never" a thing in Sweden is a generalisation that a person who is not a minority would make. It might be better to say its only practiced amongst the religious minority population in sweden which is very small.

What makes this thread topic less valid than any other? Does everything in GD have to be about sex/genitalia? rolleyes

Before we dismiss the question under the banner of the "anything goes" method of parenting yet again, why not look into it?

Turns out that if gwen is bleaching the hair it may not be such a good idea after all.

http://www.hairfinder.com/hair4/harmful-bleach.htm

Q: What is hair bleach made of? Is bleach harmful to your health?

bleached hair A: The bleaching agents used to lighten the hair vary with the level of lightening desired. For small amounts of lift and lightening of the hair’s color, hydrogen peroxide is a common bleaching agent. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide used for lightening the hair is much stronger than the solution used to disinfect and treat wounds. It can irritate the bare skin with which it comes in contact, but usually only becomes an issue when an individual is sensitive to it.

For high-lift bleaching processes, most bleach additives include ingredients like Potassium Persulphate, which helps to whiten and lift color, and Sodium Metasilicate (which acts as an alkaline component and helps the bleach penetrate the hair shaft. There are other similar ingredients that may be found in the bleach, and these ingredients make-up a product considered to be an “off-the-scalp” bleaching agent. These products are not intended to come in contact with the skin and are likely to cause chemical burns with exposure.

Not even the mildest bleaching agents could be considered “healthful” and are especially harmful if ingested, or if they get into the eye or other mucous membrane. Always read any packaging carefully before use in order to make sure you know what to do in case of emergency.

Joined up yet..? I don't follow what this means. I have pretty liberal ideals for parenting.

I see well loved, good natured kids in those photos.

If they're using bleach, it's a chemical process. There's nothing healthful about it, but you can feel the burning if it's on too long and it starts getting really dangerous. These are products on the market, and there's no age warnings of any dangers when used properly. You could google up warnings for most household shampoos with standard ingredients that cause hair loss, and so on. Hair products in general can be a problem. I'm sure Gwen Stefani uses the best money can buy, and there are whole blogs devoted to clean beauty products.... but uh, yeah, I don't encourage you to ingest or put a lot of stuff we use in our daily lives, into your eyeballs.
