it was not racist at all, it was not pro-war at all. Parts may have been changed to drive a story (but Selma flat out LIES about LBJ was that disgusting to you?)

They used the word evil twice. once was in general the other was when a person did something evil. But it by no means glorifies violence or war.

Why anyone would just attack something they admit they know nothing about is weird. To go out of your way to troll me over it is worst.

Where did I say that the movie was racist? Learn how to read, I said I´ve seen many tweets from people who watched the movie and those tweets or messages were racist, jingoistic and disgusting. And stupid. Hence my skepticism regarding such a movie. First I thought I might watch it but now I am 100 % sure that I am not going to watch that movie, simply because YOU like that movie. lol

if you prejudge a movie basd on a few tweets then you must be assuming the same of the movie.

And where did I troll you? Just because you misunderstood my post (which wasn´t even that complicated) does not mean I´m trolling you. Why would I troll you? When have I ever trolled you? When have I ever trolled ANYONE here on the org since I became a member in 1999 ? You are not that important.

it was trolling as this topic is to rate a movie you have seen, not to put down another's review of a movie that you have not seen.

I thought I could ask you a simple question such as "What did you like about it?" because I happen to like the director of that movie and was genuinely interested in reading your opinion. I thought you´d be more level-headed outside the P&R forum but I guess I was wrong.

Now I see why some people ignore you in P&R.

I put my review here.

Really funny movie. I recommend it! Just for the opening and the 2 cameos alone.

American Sniper (2014)

I've read it's not a very honest depiction of U.S. Navy Seal, Chris Kyle, but as a fictional movie, it's not bad although a little one-dimensional. star star star 1/2

It was good.

I wish that they had delved into the characters' lives just a LITTLE more deeply...but I understand that it's in essence a racing film, and as such, that's what it focused on.

Lucy

dreadful, dreadful piece of garbage

right from the opening scene where the guy kept roughly pulling scarlett back by the arm when she tried to walk away ... (her reaction was ridiculous)

just a typical hollywood lifeless effort

scarlett's acting was awful

due to the subject matter, i couldn't help compare this movie to limitless.. which although it'self a flawed film (the guy could have easily paid the russian guy back on time, and didn't really need to borrow the money in the first place ... a lazy effort to bring drama into the movie that brought it down several pegs) absolutely destroyed lucy

The Boxtrolls (2014) - A young orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator. Based on the children's novel 'Here Be Monsters' by Alan Snow.

This had one of the grossest depictions of lactose intolerance I've ever seen. lol star star star

daawat-e-ishq - a Bollywood rom-com, this was a really fun watch. i love bollywood, such a fresh energy coming from there. the movie addresses the topic of dowry-burning, and advocates a new message for younger generations in that regard. very sweet story, and the musical dance interludes brighten it up considerably starstarstarstarstar

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) - A married farmer falls under the spell of a slatternly woman from the city, who tries to convince him to drown his wife.

Very cool-looking silent film. I don't believe I've ever seen one with tracking shots before--innovative for its time. star star star star 1/2

the Babadook - Closer to We Need to Talk About Kevin than the more traditional horror movie I somewhat expected. A believable, sympathetic mother, an all-too-realistic annoying kid, and some truly creepy moments add up to a very effective film with a surprising emotional bite. 4/5.

I liked this movie, ordered the pop-up book...

A Most Violent Year (2014) - In New York City 1981, an ambitious immigrant fights to protect his business and family during the most dangerous year in the city's history.

I liked it a lot. The trailers led me to believe Oscar Isaac's character was some kind of gangster, but he was quite the opposite. Jessica Chastain's line, "This was very disrespectful." should become a classic. star star star star

Unbroken (2014) - After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

Not bad, but nothing remarkable in how this veteran's story is told. star star 1/2

Marion Cotillard is awesome in this. And thankfully, it didn't have one of those predictable voting movie endings. star star star star 1/2

Before The Matrix (this film is 1995), but long after Blade Runner and has more in common with that dystopian future than Morpheus and co.

This movie was an apparant bomb and I guess people were getting fatigued with these virtual reality cyberpunky action films, but this one actually holds up really well.

The direction, acting, editing (partly by an uncredited James Cameron, helping out his then wife, who direcred this film), look and soundtrack are all top notch. Yes the millenium angle dates it, but nice to see Cameron (who wrote the screenplay), address the gangster rap issue back then. Mr Cameron was apparantly inspired by the Rodney King incident, though this is no political drama.

Yes the formula's are simple, but the small twist is good and the ending reminds me how good movies were without split second editing and CGI fucking things up. Keep it simple, don't friggin' cut/cut/cut all the time to angles that just screem pointless and head scratching LOL.

OK rant over. Not on bluray yet (outside of Germany LOL). But get this if a fan of "Blade Runner" "Robocop" "Judge Dredd" (Stallone version), shit even B movie stuff like "Timecop" or "Lawnmower man" LOL.

Majot props to Angela Bassett too, who brings a warmth to what could of been just a 2d kick ass role. Now I know where Fat Boy Slims "Right here, right now" comes from LOL.

Falstaff - Chimes at Midnight (1966) - The career of Shakespeare's Sir John Falstaff as roistering companion to young Prince Hal, circa 1400-1413.

Shakespearean dialogue is always tough for me to digest and this is no exception, but I did like it. I can see why Orson Welles considers it his favorite of all his films. star star star 1/2

Didn't recall it 'til I went to your link and played the Soundcloud clips. razz Anyhoo, I obviously didn't find it distracting. So I guess I found it helpful in conveying the mood the director was going for? If not (if I ever see it again), I'm 99% certain that as soon as the drums kick in, I will think of your post and become distracted by it. biggrin

2.5 / 5 tolerable at best, mediocre and boring at worst; I've read a lot of reviews claiming that a Superman movie should be fun and bright (not necessarily campy), but this movie is just doom and gloom and blah blah blah

Last Days in Vietnam (2014) - During the chaotic final weeks of the Vietnam War, as the North Vietnamese Army closes in on Saigon, American soldiers and diplomats confront the moral quandary of whether to obey White House orders to evacuate U.S. citizens only or to risk treason and save the lives of as many South Vietnamese citizens as they can.

I was impressed with how much footage from the war was available to use. Very good documentary. star star star star
