Mom Ditches Kids to Go On Australian Vacation and Avoids Jailtime

This is a shocking story of a woman who ditched her kids to go on a trip to Australia to meet up with a guy that she met on the internet. What would make a woman dump her kids to do something like this? Surprisingly, she got ZERO jail time in this whole incident. Check it out:

Being a bad mother isn't something you should be sent to jail for.

I'm not sure where you're from so perhaps the laws are different but here in the States (and also apparently the UK) you can go to jail for abandoning a child in that way.

I'm from Holland and I don't know what the law here says, but I still don't think a prison sentence is the right thing to do in situations like these.

Too much work.

But I will say I don't think that mom automatically ends in jail so much as CPS removes the the children which I'm guessing is what happened. Jails are full or so they say, better to put moms like this on house arrest at most, make their butts stay home than throwing them in county lockup.

Like jail is the answer for things like this?

Do you really think the mother will come out as a better person after jail?

In the USA probably the first thing that would happen is Child Protective Services would remove the children from the mother's care.

She could also lose custody if the natural father petitions it.

The article says the kids were taken away, and ultimately placed with grandparents but it doesn't say if those were her parents, or the father's parents.

And I wouldn't doubt if she spits out a couple more kids somewhere along the line and doesn't look after them properly either. sad

Well, I hope Mr Australia knows about this because if she can ditch her kids, she would probably ditch his.
