Daria.

Daria was such an evolved animated series that it's animation doesn't seem to be a factor at all. In fact it's rigid, flash style animation was so rudimentary that to pay too much attention to it took away from the greatness of this series as a whole. Putting it's focus on its most extreme personality gave it life. Letting slight humanity slip through the cracks gave it heart. Wisdom gave it immortality.

Young Justice.

Beautifully drawn, extremely grounded and well-rounded characterization, ethnically diverse and action-packed besides, Young Justice came across as more of a hip soap opera then a Saturday morning cartoon, and that was probably its downfall. Cancelled after 2 erratically scheduled seasons, it's cancellation was more controversial then any plot the creators could come up with. Although one of Cartoon Networks most watched shows, it seems the wrong people were watching, namely teen girls and adults who knew what Saturday morning used to feel like yet without this awesome quality. Warners, unable to sell toys to young boys, cried fowl, and unceremoniously cancelled the show. Fans are still hurting to this day, hoping for an Arrested Development style comeback. But when your parents don't even love you...

The Simpsons.

What's left to be said about The Simpsons? At its best it's the best satire around, with more insight then any of the current animated series combined. At worst it's a Sunday evening time waster, yet still funny. The most relevant thing about the series these days is it's revolutionary couch gags, which truly are amazing. The fact that The Simpsons can still manage two or three classic episodes a season after 25 years is astonishing. It will seem wierd when the inevitable day comes when there will be no more Simpsons. Until then...

Daria was awesome, especially for all the Sick Sad World references.

But don't overlook this cartoon.

I like The Boondocks but I think it could've learned a BIG lesson from Daria; focus on your strongest character. I believe it's a popular opinion that Huey shoiuld've been the focus of The Boondocks but he wasn't to everyone's frustration. So it's out of the top three.

If you've never caught Young Justice give it a try. Even if you're not into super heroes like that the show is so addictive it draws you in.

I used to share a house with a long haired dead pan brunette who hated Daria. Last year she accused me of her being in love with me by saying she loved me.

A year has passed and I fear this recent Dave Grohl documentary has brought us no closer together.

I like how South Park has now turned into a self referential perpetual education film.
