Obi-wan as Dr. Strange?

Ewan McGregor May Be Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’

Here’s what we know for sure about Marvel’s Doctor Strange at this point: Sinister helmer Scott Derrickson is directing, Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts is writing, and Kevin Feige thinks the film is “very important” to the studio’s plans moving forward. That’s about it. As for casting, we’ve heard everyone from Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy to “Boardwalk Empire” star Jack Huston to Ethan Hawke over the past few months, but the actor that came closest to signing was Joaquin Phoenix. Ultimately he ended up dropping out (or the two parties never agreed to terms), leaving the Sorcerer Supreme up for grabs.

Now Badass Digest is saying that Marvel is “looking” at Ewan McGregor for the part. On the surface, McGregor isn’t exactly the most outside-the-box choice, but he’s a solid actor who has a young-at-heart feel to him and a way of expressing childlike wonder (see: Big Fish, The Island) that could work well with the whole magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. McGregor also has franchise experience, having played a young Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequels, so he’s seen firsthand how the moving pieces work in a project this large.

But if Marvel is considering signing McGregor for a multi-film contract as Doctor Strange, what does that say about all of the talk that one of the Star Wars spin-off films could center on Obi-Wan, and that McGregor could reprise the role? It seems like he’d only have time for one major franchise, and I’d be utterly shocked if the timing worked out for both (assuming that the Obi-Wan spin-offs are even really happening). McGregor would be practically owned by Disney for the next few years if both of those deals came to fruition, so take this all with a grain of salt for now, but expect Marvel to make an official announcement sometime soon about who they’re choosing to play Doctor Strange.

Do you think McGregor is a good choice?

Dr. Strange is a bit of a reach... but I guess Ewan would be okay.

As to the rumored three Obi Wan movies (Not a Trilogy) I am a little on the meh side... But I am excited about VII.

Since the very beginning of this "comic book movie craze", I've been pining for a Dr. Strange movie.

And as much as I like Ewan M as an actor...I just don't see him as the brooding sorceror.

I think of Dr Strange as being thin and tall (like Steve Ditko or Marshall Rogers drew him) so Ewan McGregor would be a good fit I think. Have to dye his hair though...

Yeah, if they gave us a blond-ish Dr. Strange I would go ballistic.

Id go with Jack Huston. He kinda has that Johnny Depp look without the Depp price tag. McGregor and Hawke are interesting tho

I'm a fan of Ewan, but if I'm being honest, I'd really like to see a Mediterranean, North African or Near Eastern actor play Strange.
