Perhaps, but the subject of this thread is who does and who does not get a "pass" from the media.

Her friends aren't going to stay her friends. What she is going to find out is who are her REAL friends. I guarantee you that probably 90% of people she thought were her friends have distanced themselves from her as a result of the charges and publicity surrounding those charges.

I can also guarantee you that pretty much everyone she works with keeps their distance now, too. That means everyone on her league team, and everyone on the national team.

Again, all it takes is one story to ruin your reputation. Hope Solo definitely got that one story. In fact, she got more than one story. And whether or not anyone thinks her story was repeated enough, it's indisputable that it was reported at least once nationwide.

I think Hope getting a "pass" has more to do with there being no video or picture evidence of her abuse for the media to run with, and less to do with her being a woman. This happens all the time with celebrities/athletes, even us regular people, and domestic violence. If there's no visual proof, no one really cares, and sometimes no one even believes it.

In Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson's case, we all had visual evidence of it. And it was disturbing so people got very emotional about it. Had there not been video released of Ray Rice knocking his wife out he'd probably still be fine since the NFL covered up for him. Likewise for Adrian Peterson. If the news reported that Adrian disciplined his child by physical means without the pictures, most people wouldn't think much of it because they probably wouldn't think it was as bad as it actually was. I actually saw people online say "what's the big deal" about him disciplining his child that way without even looking at the pictures.

There's plently of athletes and celebrities who are abusers and still working, even after getting arrested in same cases, and they get passes because we can't see it.
