Friends react to shooting death during Craigslist robbery gallery

FULTON COUNTY, Ga —

An Alpharetta Christian school is rallying around the family of a Roswell native killed during a robbery Friday night.

Sandy Springs police have charged 20-year-old Nathaniel Vivian and his 16-year-old girlfriend for murdering 28-year-old Danny Zeitz outside of his Treelodge Parkway apartment.

Police said the pair responded to Zeitz’s Craiglist ad to sell them a PlayStation 4 console, but robbed and shot him instead.

“Nobody knows why this happened,” said David Rhodes, headmaster of King’s Ridge Christian School where Zeitz’s mother Patty taught art for 14 years. “It breaks my heart that Danny is not with us anymore and that this family is having to go through this hardship.”

As far as I can tell the only people using craigslist are sex addicts and murderers.

Hummm...........every city is different I guess. I know a lot of folks selling stuff on CL everyday. They haven't had any issues but a few folks have been killed here over cell phones and other cheap stuff. One dude had his car taken.

I have sold stuff online, but never before on Craigslist. I don't allow people to come to my residence, and it doesn't matter how nearby they live. I'll just tell them that I'll ship it to you.

I have never had a problem with CL, but twice I test drove cars that I'm pretty sure were stolen (missing license plates, weird dudes). Fortunately, I didn't have thousands of dollars cash in my pocket

People still sell stuff on Craigslist? Wow.

As Jagar said, the first mistake was using CL....but the 2nd mistake was doing (what should had been) the business transaction at his home.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I guess the dynamics are different from city to city.

There a few folks here whose entire business is based around CL sales, and it works for them.

Yeah, people still sell stuff, post in the "Missed Connections" section, and have One night stands on Craigs List...There are more Married people on there looking for Sex with anybody than the Law allows....The only thing that has changed about CL is that the Murder rate has gone up..

I thought everyone knew... you meet folks at a very public place, Micky D's, as OnlyNDUsa mentioned. I sold a bunch of recording gear / instruments last year on CR, I had no issues at Micky's.

And scam artists. I listed some furniture on Craigslist and immediately got several offers at my asking price. Plus, they all promised to send an assistant with a cashier's check right away! But I remembered seeing something on CL about cashiers checks, and went to look. Sure enough, CL said that the cashiers checks are fake, and never accept one in payment.

One guy had sent me a message saying he was in Paris, France, but would have his assistant rush over a cashiers check. I responded back, "What a coincidence! I'm in Paris, too! Let's meet at a cafe and you can pay me, and then I'll tell my assistant to let your assistant pick up the furniture!"

Never heard back from that guy, LOL.

That's awful sad I don't agree with going to people's places to buy stuff at all, public places have a lower risk and it's safer if there are people around, or you at least not go alone. Better yet, use cash or ask for cash payments only to avoid fraud, actually phone the person, block your number and use that to make a sound judgment about whether it's worth it or not.

Based on these comments I'm surprised that CL still exists.

Well, I think it depends on where you live....Crime Rate here in my Local Southern area is not high...My Ex-co worker bought an old Floor model Wide screen TV from a stranger on Craigs list...He went to the Guy's house and everything went fine...So everyone on CL is not going to Rob, Rape or Kill someone...Like I said, if you're in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit going on CL is probably not wise..Mega-City Folks can be dangerous people...

I guess I never though of it that way.

I'll bet 75% of that is nothing more than police sting ops.

I buy and sell on CL from time to time, never for anything that significant. Usually concert tickets and such. I've never had a problem or been ripped off.

But I used to look at Recycler ads for cars and would drive around to peoples' houses, sometimes with a couple grand in cash so I could make an offer right away. I wouldn't do anything like that nowadays.
