Looking for Publishing Company

Hey everyone. I'm working on a writing project and was hoping to find a comprehensive list or a few good leads for smaller publishing companies. I'm not interested in the mammoth-sized publishers but specifically looking for any start ups or smaller-sized companies. Not asking for any personal contacts from your personal network here per se but just interested in getting names and websites for decent publishers. Thanks!

Cool, the UK would be great as well, even though I'm in the States I'm open to that. Thanks for the reply smile

You'd be better off finding an agent - they will pitch your book to the publisher.

Guess I picked a bad year to quit drinking...

I don't know if I can afford an agent though...aren't they expensive?

But in that case, how does anyone know you have a book out there? That's what I'm always wondering about with self-publishing. You can publish whatever you want, but finding readers is the trick.

CreateSpace is a good place to self publish and you can do it for free if you know how to format and upload and all of that. They say, though, that no one reads self published books- I don't know if that's true or not but I suppose it depends on who your audience is? And if you have a target audience, I think if you were to promote to that audience you might have success. Anyway, good luck----

i know someone that started off self publishing and ended up with a publishing deal, so it's possible to start on your own and make it. Remember 50 shades of gray started as fan fiction and now it's a movie.

I didn't realize that 50 shades started that way. Wow. I guess you never know where things will lead you.
