nod Last night's episode was fire! I knew Chalky wasn't going to make it but I feel that they put him away in a dignified manner. Of course he knew what was going to be up with Narcisse, he was prepared for it since he sacrificed himself to give Daughter and their daughter a better life. clapping Now let's see how they going to kill Nucky off because he's definitely going to die.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I hope Nucky doesnt die. I hope they give him one of those Dark Knight Rises, or Dexter endings where it appears he's dead but he's not. All my favs getting killed off. Chalky, his daughter,My boy Mr.Harrow and Nucky's butler. Nucky just cant die it would not be right.

If you are talking about Nucky, his character is loosely based on Enoch Johnson, but they changed the last name for the show so that they could do what they wanted with Nucky's character. We all know that Luciano and Lansky are going to end up on top because it's in the history books. Those two men lived long lives and died natural deaths....on the other hand, Enoch Johnson also lived a long life and died a natural death....so either the writers can have Nucky Thompson killed off, thrown in jail or fast forward to decades later for us to watch him die a natural death (circa Godfather Part III with Michael Corleone).

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

And Michael Shannon as well. There's such a dark humor to his character this season and he pulls that off very well.

well done episode; my 2 remaining faves in the series signed off last night. Boyle is proving surprisingly competent, something he said to the youmg guy about leading his own gang in his youth leads me to believe it will be he who betrays nad knocks off Nucky for a spot in the Syndicate.

I would have looked forward to Van Alden's death scene if it had happened earlier in the series--like right after he drowned his partner, but in the years since, he has become a much more sympathetic character. I was sad to see him go. I wonder if his hot wife Sigrid will appear again. With only two episodes left(!) probably not.

Just seen the episode. Probably the best episode in the show's run.

And yes, Sigrid is oddly hot. She'd be a good dominatrix.

The episode turned out great DESPITE the time wasted with the odd Nucky-gets-gaffled storyline.

These Boardwalk writers really need to get out of their own way sometimes.

Nucky's a central character. No time wasted in his final episode at all.

But 8 episodes is no time at all to tell some of these stories.

You're actually getting to my point. It's not whether time was spent on Nucky; it was how the time was spent.

Since Season 3 (and probably earlier), Nucky's storylines drifted so often they've missed key time to tell some of these stories. Nucky stopped being the most compelling character on the show 3 seasons ago. We couldn't say that about Tony Soprano.

Now, in a condensed finale season, they're using this "origin storyline" in an attempt to explain what doesn't need to be explained: Nucky's backstory.

These fantastic actors have already explored Nucky's abusive childhood, the loss of his family, his relationship with the Commodore and his betrayal of Gillian to get ahead. Why spend so much time in 8 episodes to essentially re-tell all of that? Even if it were needed, why didn't they do it in S2 or S3? That's time that could have been spent framing out the endgame for the series.

The show is one of the best on television, despite these problems (which I'm not alone in mentioning). The cast of this show, to a person, has done the material great justice. The writers have not always returned the favor to the cast.

Sorry, you wrote Nucky but I read that as Chalky.

Sorta agree with what you say given they've only had 8 episodes. This really should have been a 10-episode season minimum.

And I agree; they needed 2 more hours. For all of the show's issues, it's a pleasure to watch this cast work.

Dang, Mickey finally got clipped!!! eek eek eek I actually thought he was going to be there until the end. I have to say though, when Meyer told Nucky to get on his knees then asked "now how does it feel?" I was like, daaaaammmmmnnnnnnn, clapping

So only one more episode left. Kind of feel sad. I really loved this show and the time period.

It was a good episode last night.

Mickey was in good position; JUST as he got the affirmation he wanted (the club and a piece of the profits), he spoke out of school and caught it.

(SPOILER) Nucky basically sacrificed his status for family. Hard to believe his redemption could come via Jillian. Keep an eye on Wall Street.

Hey guys, did any of see Boardwalk Empire: Final Look??? It's a 30 minute special talking with the brilliant cast of BE and their experiences in working on the show. It's very good! I wish they would have made it a whole hour! The actors talk about their favorite scenes on the show, their wardrobe, dealing with script changes at the last minute and how they came to be cast. They even show some of the actors' audition tapes. When you get a chance, try to catch it. It's airing on Demand as well. thumbs up!

The series was bound to end poorly for Nucky. And the finale basically summed up all the good AND bad elements of the show.

That being said . . .

kudos to the cast and crew for 5 seasons of quality television.

i was definately thinking after the "tent scene" where the lady said "do you want to see your future" or whatever - i just had this feeling that they are gonna say goodbye to him ...

that having been said ... when he gave the bag of money to Eli ... i had this feeling that maybe Eli would save him .. on the boardwalk ...

but oh well ... it was a sad ending but what a ride it was ... Jimmy , Gillian .. Chalky ...
