RIP James Garner

Hollywood actor James Garner, star of The Rockford Files and The Notebook has died at the age of 86, according to reports.

Garner was found dead when an ambulance arrived at his Los Angeles home around 8pm on Saturday, TMZ reports.

He and his wife Lois — who he wed in 1956 just two weeks after they met — had one of Hollywood’s longest marriages.

The cause of death is not yet known.

RIP :flowers:

Mr. Garner was one of the very few actors during his era that switch effortlessly between motion pictures and TV. During his time TV was second banana for fading actors, acresses, and actors who didn't have the "right stuff" to have a movie career.

Rockford Files, Friday night 7:00pm...my show.

Never really liked him in TV shows. To me he seemed very egotistical and pompous in interviews. Still an ok actor. RIP. I kinda felt the same about Paul Newman, but he changed my mind in Somebody Up There Likes Me.

I never liked Maverick of all the great TV western shows Bonanza and Maverick were pretty weak. I thought the Rockford Files fit him to a tee... Graner did a lot of TV guest spots to. Just last week I saw Garner in an episode of Gunsmoke.

The New York Times, Obit

James Garner, Witty Handsome Leading Man, Dies at 86

Today Encore Western channel aired the episdoe of “Cheyenne"... that gave Mr. Garner his break in the show biz. I was a small part, he played a Methodist preacher heading to California to homestead a new town.

I loved The Rockford Files! I went to Youtube to look for the theme song to post here and found the first episode (if you follow the link to watch on Youtube, there's a lot of others too).

Rest well, Mr. Garner. Thanks for the fond memories. rose

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I love TV intros, they make the show. Now a days they cut out the intro just to put in more commercial space (I'm mostly talking to you CW). RIP Mr. Garner

Me too! The Rockford Files had one of the best intros in TV history.

He doesn't look like a 86 yr old man, but then he's never looked his age. Loved The Rockford Files and the Kodak commercials he did, back in the day.

Good looking out because on my cable guide there's something else listed so I would have totally missed it, had you not posted about it. thumbs up!

I know, they had titles for movies this morning that didn't match year or the actors. lol TCM does stuff on the fly.... after 12 noon, no more Garner movies. I'm sure TCM will give a date/day when they'll do a 24hr tribute to Garner's career. They've had a couple of films on Encore too.

PS. Yeah stay on TCM they back to showing Garner movies, you'd think the could change their listings. confused
