streetcar role aside, the 'bad boy' image has been popular forever. it's still hot today, even though we acknowledge that certain characteristics in a mate constitute 'abusive' (like how stanley emotionally abuses, rapes, beats women in streetcar which was a play that reflects the reality of life today for many women who are raped, beaten and abused and it's still accepted that men can just do what they want but i digress) i dunno. it bugs me, actually pisses me off to still see that abusive male role model sold as prince charming, but it's still a boys will be boys world out there eh? and not only that, we actually have women advocating that stuff too.

perhaps the original bad boy model arose because waaaaaay back in neanderthal times, women wanted the biggest, baddest mate who could crush an attacking alligator with his jaws. (true, he beats me up, but he klilled the alligator that was about to kill me. better the devil i know....)

Stanley Kowalski (as portrayed by Brando) was great to look at, killer handsome, however, I never would have wanted to actually be with him. Do men like him exist today in America? Of course...but I think the difference of then and now is that back in the day, IMO, men were more up front and didn't try to hide it (their asshole-ishness). Men today like Stanley are a bit more deceiving at first, they play the prince charming role and the assholeness comes out later...but of course this isn't without a bunch of red flags flying out the ass left and right to give us women clues first, the thing is, most women ignore red flags because they can't believe that the guy is pulling their chair out, opening their car door and paying for expensive gifts and vacations.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If a man beat up his wife in my mom's neighborhood. All the other men in the neighborhood got together and beat the shit out of the man. Needless to say the man never touched his wife again.

when you take into account the kind of movies that were being made at the time, it's an incredibly intense film imo

stanley was an arse... but just a dude with no idea how to get in touch with or control his emotions... pretty common... and no i'm not making excuses for his actions

as far as brando goes... he's the king imo.. and to me, dudes don't get any better looking than a young brando

It's funny when people confuse characters with the people who play them.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
