Help for my brother

Hi All:

I know most of you don't really know me personally but I am a long time Orger who has often used this site as a healing place when I experienced bad times or suffered a loss. My brother, who I know you also don't know, came down with a condition called GBS which is a syndrome that affects the immunity system. My brother has lost over 50 pounds and regaining his ability to walk will be an uncertain struggle. He has two children and a new grandchild and, if my word means anything around here, he is a great guy. His condition has fluctuated from very serious to critical to where he is now, 4 months later, recovering and eating solid food and trying to prepare for what will likely be grueling rehab. I love my brother and I want to see him and his family not be completely devastated by medical bills in the hundreds of thousands. The treatment he initially took was 10 bags of medication at 10 K a piece and that is just for one treatment. So anyway, if you happen to have $5.00, $10.00 whatver laying around anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated by me and my family.

Thank you for asking. It is definitely a long haul. From the end of January to just in the last two weeks he couldn't eat anything and lost so much weight, making him even weaker. I visited him last weekend and he was able to eat soft foods and have a milkshake and I don't think anybody was ever happier to get a milkshake in their lives! It will be several months before he can walk again and that will require rigorous PT. But he has fought like a champion and was deemed a low hope case several times by several doctors, many who did not really understand GB and all of its complications.

It has been enlightening and I know I have come on this site and complained about various things (and no doubt will again) but something like this puts it all in perspective. Many of us, most of us don't have perfect lives but if we have our health and our ability to be mobile than we have a lot more than we recognize.
